Default ADVC110/iMovie 09 Issue/Xbox360

Well I'm new with using the ADVC110 I recently got it and I'm loving it so far. The quality is much better compared to the Dazzle DVC100. I use the ADVC110 to record some of my gaming on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I had a friend upload this video for me. After I sent him the file.

I'm having one issue I'm not sure if its the ADVC110 or the software. I switched my xbox 360 console aspect ratio to widescreen as I was hoping the output of the ADVC 110 would be 16:9 when I imported it to iMovie. The image was a forced 16:9 by forced I mean it was cropped and it lost some of the image above as well from the bottom. I then used the function to have it fit the screen. It appeared as full screen but it was super skinny and tall. I left the results as "16:9" and it resulted in something like http://youtu.be/WRApcsJBYuc so I was hoping you guys knew a fix to have it actually be 16:9 without having a loss of image from the top and bottom.

I also have Final Cut Pro but I haven't tried that software with the ADVC110. Any advice with this software? *Do you believe it'd actually show 16:9 recording without the loss of image?* Would you suggest me trying a different software to get the outcome I want? If so which one? *I'd like it to be compatible for Macintosh*

Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

All suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

-Lizzie(:

Lol I shall xD

*add on question to my original post...I need a new longer firewire so I need to know what type it is 6 to 6? and is it male to male? Lol I'm a noob when it comes to firewire but I'd like a new one that supplies power and works like the current one that was provided with the ADVC110*

Thanks

Lizzie you should be able to take it to your local electronic store and get it matched up, it will either be 6 to 6 or 4 to 4 or 6 to 4

I'm not familiar with that game, but looking at the video, it definitely looks like parts are being cut off.

So now on to why...

A widescreen analog input to the ADVC should be anamorphic, meaning it should be a 16:9 aspect ratio image, squashed into a 4:3 frame. In other words, the image should look horizontally squeezed - and circles will be taller than they are wide. This is normal. The problem now is that while the DV format supports widescreen, the incoming stream to your computer will not be flagged as such.

So, when you load it into your editing software, you need set up a 16:9 project, then load the clip and tell it that the clip is really 16:9 aspect.

Avoid using any "Letterbox" or 16x9 filter on the clip, as that will often just put a black matte over the image, simply cutting off the top/bottom instead of properly scaling it.

Looking at your video, I think that's what's happening - it's just cutting off the top and bottom instead of properly stretching it. The radar display on the lower right definitely looks egg-shaped, as do the tires of cars, though the tires are more difficult since they're not being viewed straight-on. The little blue balls that appear on-screen also look egg-shaped, but they're small so it's difficult to determine too. If you're having trouble determining whether it's circular or not, try tilting your head to the side and look at it again. Otherwise you can use a ruler.

If your editing software doesn't allow you to change the clip's aspect ratio, you'll need to do it manually - load the clip and stretch it to 16:9 dimensions without maintaining aspect ratio of the clip, as it's a non-uniform scale. That'll get your video looking correct.

I figured if I just upload it to youtube in 4:3 and in the tags include yt:stretch=16:9 it'll stretch it in 16:9 ratio. [i.e. http://youtu.be/TGAniYL40TE] iMovie09 isn't capable of converting it without taking away some of the image. :(

I haven't figured out how to do 16:9 on final cut pro or adobe premiere pro cs5 yet. So if anyone knows let me know :)

I also discovered the software movie converter studio to be helpful in converting 4:3 video to 16:9 *i've only tried the demo/trial version I haven't boughten the full version. demo works great so far*
