Default Edius gpu usage

I have not completely clear one thing: how important is a gpu while editing/coding with edius? Is it better have a good cpu or gpu (always considering to balance them, obviously)?
I have a nvidia 9800gt, what edius does use it for? Does edius use cuda maybe?

P.S. I have already searched in the forum, but had no luck on this... http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/fo...earchid=890139

The card you have now, providing enough ram, should be sufficient for general work in Edius.

Requirements get higher when going up the HD quality ladder when using multiple filters etc.

I used to have a Quadro card in the days that normal GPU were not able to perform as needed, now the Quadro is retired and use a simple GTX with heaps of ram, a well ballanced system from A to Z is much more important than a muscle GPU on a turtle.

When you do heavy composting / 3D stuff, the tables turn drastically though.

Note: it also depends on the resolution of you display, single or dual monitor.

Lol!

But how does edius use the gpu? I mean, it uses it for... encoding? Applying effects in live? What? Don't know if cuda is supported, for example, as I know it is on Adobe cs4...

I think if you would post some system spec, that you have, or plan to invest, other advanced users will chime in to explain and recommend.

Myself have not spend time in the "Cuda" story and the inner working of that and if Edius want's any of that, at present it doesn't as far as I know, but things can change fast (sometimes).

A good person on hardware advise will be Gdame, he normally plays a lot with latest goodies ...........

Give it a little while, the active users here will respond soon (normally)

EDIUS does not employ CUDA technology.

The GPU is primarily used for the GPUfx transitions. The better the GPU+Video RAM, the longer the effects can be played without the need to render.
