I uninstalled the BE version, it can't play my MXF files from Sony XDCAM HD 4:2:2 50M

Media player classic works fine with all files

No real improvements, I just like the dark GUI better.

I don't have to deal with XDCAM MXF files, so I have never had the opportunity to try them.

As usual, I am always of the mind it's best to use what works best for your workflow. As I said, I still have the regular MPC installed, just in case I do run across something MPC-BE won't play. I also have VLC installed for the same reason, but rarely use that as I find the display quality is not as good as MPC and MPC-BE.

Hello, thanks for replying. I absolutely always play my AVI files in Windows Media Player, and they played before, so it's odd that they aren't playing now.
Is there another viewer you suggest?
I've always used Media player historically

You can use MediaInfa (free) to analyze:
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

Can you do that with one of your AVI files and provide the result?
So I jus tran this program
it says

CONTAINER AND GENERAL
avi open DML
1.22 gib
2 min 16
1 video stream canopus hqx
1 audio stream pcm

first video stream
75.3mbs 1920*1080 16/9
at 29.970 (30000/1001/ fps canopus hqx

first audio stream
1 536 kbs 48.0 khz
16 bits 2 channels pcm little signed

If the previous person was correct that HQX won't work in Media Player, what is the suggested output of AVI files?

and when do you guys consider it important to keep AVI files?

PPS THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP SO FAR

download the 64bit installer version https://mpc-hc.org/downloads/

once installed, right click an avi and choose open with, MPC won't be listed so you need to browse for it in Program Files

repeat the same for all video file types, even mp4, mov, mpg etc.

It's not the codecs. The problem is the "new and not so improved" Media Player that microsoft has pushed out with Windows 10. It will not handle the GV codecs, among others I'm sure.

There is nothing wrong with using MPC as was suggested. It can play a lot more file types than WMP can, and as far as I'm concerned actually has a better quality decode and display.

You might like to try the free MPC-HC x64 from

https://mpc-hc.org/.

Have just rendered out a few GV avi's and they all seem to play OK.
Replaces the older MPC-HC which was 32bit
