Default Audio Sample Rate issue.

I work with professional music studios and was recently supplied a recording master which is a .wav @192Khz sample rate at 24bit. It plays fine in Edius but with an extremely high "surface" noise.

If I play it in Audition it is totally silent and clean, and if I create a down sampled file at 48Khz 16/24 bit it plays cleanly in Edius as well.

If I export the file from Edius to a 16 bit .wav file it is still really noisy.

If I create a 192Khz 24/16 bit file from anything in Audition, edius plays back high noise levels.

Not sure if this has come up before but it may be a bug or maybe Edius is not able to play these high data rate wav files?

Paul :-)

I wonder if this player or converter might help:

After a couple of other tests it would appear that Edius's internal sample rate conversion is extremely poor.

Unless you start with 48Khz files you will likely see very large increases in background hiss.

I strongly suggest anyone who is in any way bothered by audio quality either post in a DAW or convert all your variants of audio to 48Khz using a decent tool such as Audition.

It's a bug or just crummy conversion inside Edius.

Same in 7.5 and 9.5.

It would interesting to know if FCP or Adobe Premiere have the same issues. But I don't think Edius ever claimed to import all audio formats. Would be nice if some of the Edius tech guys weighed-in on this.

Maybe here are several high-res audio file formats, such as FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec). Though these two formats are compressed but in theory no information is lost and keep the 100% quality.
