Default RED footage in WG9

I have some RED *.R3D 23.98FPS 4K files and I thought I would try them with the latest update of Edius WG 9 and the GPU ticked on in settings for RED.

4096 by 2160 almost real time, climbing buffer in 1/2 playback
4096 by 1708 real time

8192 by 4320 realtime at 1/4 playback

That's come along way forward from no GPU and 1/8th playback of 4K

The only query I would have is that I only see the GPU peaking at 14% core load.

Tested on system 4.

I would be interested how resolve or prem pro utilize the gpu as they have had better Red implementation for longer, Edius and GPU is sketchy at best and does Edius see all your cores and know what to do with them ?

Paul :-)

Hi Paul

Edius does pick up all 64 threads (they show as active) and I did the CPU cores no parking tweak in Windows to stop them going to sleep.

If in the bios I make the PC dual 18 core, Edius thinks there are 32 threads, if in the bios I limit the PC to 16 plus 16 cores Edius sees 64 threads. Edius must therefore have a 64 thread limit.

I have Premiere Pro on the same unit as Edius, and I find it doesn't seem to pick up the GPU very reliably there is a pause at the beginning, needing several stop starts to play smoothly with UHD footage.

PrPro really chokes with UHD XAVC MXF long GOP files whereas Edius is quite happy with them.

It seems on this set up Edius is significantly better than PrPro which to get the no frames dropped indicator to be green is half the playback resolution of Edius with the same files.

We are not yet allowed to create a project of 8192 by 4320 so testing this in 4096 by 2160.

It would be nice if on the top bar somewhere in Edius the current project resolution was displayed.

Mike
