Audio level heard in Edius will depend on the level at which it was recorded and/or captured (if an analog capture). The sound level will be a true reflection of the dynamic range of your video and audio clips, any applied audio filters/adjustments made to the clip onthe timeline, and of course the settings of your audio monitoring system (including sound card mixer settings and input mappings). Turning on the on-screen audio metering will give you an indication as to how low the clip levels actually are, and as is appropriate to a NLE you can adjust the audio to meet your needs in the final output.

The other sources you mention may already have some form of automatic level control and compression applied to set the output volume at the standard average level used by the service. Often this is set to a high level (like TV commercials) to give the program material more "punch."
