Default Laptop?

Any plans to create HD capture abilities similar to the Pegasus board in a laptop? I have to work on location much of the time, and lugging even a miniATX desktop with me is not pleasant. A laptop with a Pegasus board would be superb.

I'm not even sure that the PCMCIA bus can handle the data throughput that some of the higher end, high frame rate footage Pegasus can ingest.

The only portable solutions are the ADVC products - but they are presently SD-only and produce a DV stream, whereas Canopus HQ can deliver higher quality for the same resolution.

Shows how behind I am on notebook technology. :)

I don't recall any (former) Canopus product design or engineering done for notebooks in the past. Not saying it won't happen, but there's an awful lot of other products people would be wanting us to make for that platform first, if we did start something..

A mobile NX or something in between with HDMI port would be a real winner. Just throwing it out there if anyone is listening hehehe :D

There was a mobile CWS (CWS 50, IIRC), but it was very finicky about platform, FireWire CardBus cards, etc. So not fun at all.

The main problem is bandwidth issues in the laptop architecture. It's getting better these days, but still there can be hidden bottlenecks or gotchas.

Well, Motu and Aja have been using the FireWire 800 ports for HD stuff in an external box. Since these use compressed codecs, I don't see why we would have problems because we're not capturing uncompressed HD, but compressed HD.

At the time at least, the problem was that not all CardBus slots are built the same - some had better bandwidth, some had interruption issues.

Hopefully this is no longer the case with ExpressCard, but I don't know if anyone's revisited this.

I've got a Sata II Raid0 on a laptop express card and basically it has the throughput of my desktop, only problem is most laptops only have one slot, the manuf. can't figure anyone using anything other than a TV tuner, they could get rid of the stupid picture card slots and add another express slot.
