Default is Pegasus right for me?

Hello,

I would like to ask you which product would make a better capture in terms of quality.

- source: VHS tapes
- quality: kind of poor
- TBC used: Globalmediapro X-201
- capture card: ADVC 55 or Pegasus

Also, would the Pegasus just stop capturing like the ADVC does, when it receives a poor signal?

Please help me choose, I want to preserve whatever quality is left in my VHS tapes. Thank you.

Actually, poor VHS really should have an ADVC300 unit (along with your TBC).

I don't want any processing from the ADVC unit, and since the 55 and 300 use the same chipset, I would go for the 55.

Please tell me why I shouldn't go for the Pegasus. Thank you.

If the TBC will do all of the processing, then it really comes down to:

1) Portability
2) Canopus HQ editing/storage vs. DV25 editing storage
3) Price

ADVC55 is better for 1) and 3). While Canopus HQ can offer better compression than DV from your source, it will always need to be recompressed to be put on any form of playback medium (e.g. DVD or Blu-Ray).

DV25 will be slightly more 'lossy' but you can write DV25 back to DV tape, and also still edit on practically any system you choose.

Now everything is clear to me. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions!
