Default New Laptop Advice

I edit my own travel and family video in Sony format (AVCHD - mts files) using Edius 6.5. Since I only edit family stuff I am not using Edius on a full time basis.

I am buying a new laptop computer and would like some advice please on whether a Dell Alienware laptop would suit. The specifications I have copied from Dell are:

Overclocked 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4900MQ Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
Windows 8, English (64bit)
17.3 inch (439.42 mm) WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare 300 Nit Display
16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
1.5TB RAID 0 (2x750GB 7200RPM) + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVD±RW, CD-RW)

Look forward to any advice you care to give.

It looks good. I would prefer Win 7 at this point. Also a SSD hard drive and a separate physical second drive would be ideal instead of one large RAID drive.

Take a look at these:
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.p...el_name=NP9390

The do offer an option of Win 7 Home, Pro or Ultimate. Alienware just offers Home or Ultimate. Home restricts you to 16 gigs of ram. So, if you were thinking of adding the extra ram later, don't go Win 7 Home.

Are you looking at the Alienware units because they look cool or because of what is under the hood?

Not sure if Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade keys are still sold directly (from Microsoft) in the US, but you can still find them in retail.

Many thanks for the advice and information. I was attracted to the alienware unit because of the 4th generation processor and the reasonable price. I will make sure that I get Windows 7 professional or Windows 8 as the operating system.
