Default Thinking of a new Motherboard, CPU & Ram

Hi all,
As title says, I want to get a few of the components now, for a new build in about 2 or 3 months time.

I did a forum search and came across this MB.
Gigabyte GA-X99P-SLI, Intel X99.
I need it to power 6 or 7 internal harddrives, graphic card, BMI Pro 4K and what ever else might be needed :)

As you know, there's no QS with it.
My current board has it and like the H.264 file exporting speed I'm getting with it. (not as fast as most of yours I know)

Was thinking of this CPU, i7 6700K

Ram
Kingston Fury Black 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C15 2400MHz.

I might go for the GH5 later on in the year so want the PC to cope with its 4K files.

I have a few NewBlue affects, Vistitle etc.

Please advice, would love to hear your thoughts and what you might buy instead.

Thanks.

6700k won't work on an X99 mobo. A 6900k will.

First mistake :) Might be a bit pricey for me :(
Looks like I need a different board then.

Thanks Jerry.

Hello Tony,

I have been looking at the upcoming AMD Ryzen 1800x chip. It is an 8-core chip that is supposed to equal the Intel 8-core models but for less than half the price.

Benchmarks need to be seen but I will be watching the rollout which happens in ~10 days. So you might want to wait a few weeks before buying anything just to give it a chance.

Hi Tim, I might be more an Intel person but it's worth having a wait :)
Thank you.

Thanks Jerry.
Don't worry, the number scheme Intel is using now opens itself up to confusion.

I think we all are Intel people because AMD has been out of the competition for a while. If AMD can get it right then I will give them a shot. I have been asking for the wise council of Jerry to help with my decision :) We will need to discuss on the forum once more information is available.

Hi Tim, well, why not, it can't do any harm to wait and see what happens.

Thank you.

For people that have a good memory, there was a time when AMD and Radeon were a better solution for EDIUS. But then Intel and NVidia took the lead and has been that way for quite a while. Some AMD processors don not contain the instruction set that EDIUS needs (you can see a few of those discussions by searching here). I think over time we have simply defaulted to that combo to be safe.

It would be interesting to see how things are if someone (Tim?) wanted to take the chance and see where the latest AMD stands.
