We found a fan that would fit and swapped it on our demo machine. Swapping the fan was easy and we could probably put the original fan back on and no one would notice. However, not using the manufacturers fan would invalidate the manufacturers warranty. We asked. The Germany company may decide to give their own warranty on it as they are confident their replacement fan would be ok.

Our replacement fan was fine but after running it for 24 hours it developed a rattle. So currently we do not have one we have tested and with which are happy, hence warning people of the noise.

It is comparable to the noise of the Storm 3G - not the kind of noise we would get out of a properly cooled Xeon system around 10 years ago (i.e. a "wind tunnel" effect") but an annoying whine which is nice when it is switched off. Sound padding on our system helps but does not eliminate it.

Apart from the noise the other issue is the analogue capture not working properly. This should be fixable in drivers, but is actually a major thing that does not work properly at the moment, and of which people should be aware.

We did not use a speed controller, we replaced the fan with another one which fitted.

David,
I think Anton was asking me about the speed controller.

Anton, I have ordered a front panel to my computer case. It has connections for 3 pin fans and they are connected to heat sensors.

I only have to disconnect the BM fan from the chassis and plug in the controller from the front panel controller.
No actual operation to the Intensity itself
Regards
Douglas

PS. Of course, if the fan noise is not due to it going at full speed - then being able to slow it down with the controller will not help much

Bear in mind that the 3 pin fan connector on the BMIP4K is a mini 3 pin so not the same size as a normal 3 pin fan connector

Good point there.
Probably I will have to exchange the connector on the speed controller.

Will do - whether positive or negative.

The speed controller is due to arrive tomorrow, but the Intensity's delivery date is between Thursday and Sunday.
So I probably won't have anything to report until after the coming weekend.
Regards
Douglas

I've just installed a In 4K Pro. I don't find it to be too bad actually. Yeah, it's audible but I don't personally think it's a show stopper.

Re: warranty - if you can, run the card for a week or so before the mod to catch any early failures. (The old bathtub-shaped failure curve.)
