I think if you really want to work in HDR at UHD 50/60P which is 10 bit of course then the only complete solution at the moment is BM Decklink Extreme 4K 12G to a 55" OLED TV using Resolve Studio 16. It is likely the lowest cost too. I can buy that set for less than the cost of the Eizo monitor. For 30P there are other options of mini monitor and switchable TV like the Sony. However if the output is required to be 50/60P then I think EDIUS is limited. Resolve preview output can be changed, slowed to 30P for instance but grading can be checked, I have done this on my setup. However like EDIUS the project frame rate cannot be changed once set. Maybe the new Vegas 17 can do that like the other versions of Vegas.

Have tried using the convert format in the preview device setting? You can limit the format to what the device supports. Therefor you should get a conversion with output which should be good for grading.
I will try later to be sure as the the device currently connected supports all frame rates.

Update:
Just checked and it seems that the format conversion does not convert the frame rate to one that the device supports.Only the frame size. I will double check with QA.

Until the warranties change for OLED to include coverage for burn in, I have tempered my view of OLED. The current warranty says burn in is the end user's fault.
If I had to purchase tomorrow, I would have to go with a QLED.

I tend to agree Jerry but have had my Panasonic Plasma for many years now with no burn in issue. For me in my rooms I need to go with 49" and the Sony XBR 900F is a better choice there as it is a 120hz panel but the QLED at that size is 60hz. My wife does not like the 55" size so OLED's are out too !!! Maybe when she gets used to the 49" from the 42" we have now I will get an OLED 55 that will not seem like a big increase then to replace my second TV.

Hi Jerry,

For reasons explained by Ron (post #21) I am compelled to use Resolve 15 rather than Edius for 50p HDR/HLG so obviously was not going to mention Resolve workflow on an Edius forum... especially since it's Dave's thread Ha! I just felt I should alert potential Eizo CG319X owners to the incorrect description on the BH site.

Hardware is a different issue and you are certainly correct when you warn that creating HDR is expensive. In addition to the hardware in my signature I also needed to buy a Ninja V to be able to record 10 bit 60p HLG from my GH5's HDMI port and of course the BM Decklink Extreme 4K 12G to be able to grade it. Still on the subject of hardware I have a GTX 980 Ti GPU. This works okay for me though it cannot use Nvidia HEVC encoding so I make a GV QT HQX intermediate file from Resolve and use Handbrake to make the final 10 bit 50p HLG x.265 10-bit HEVC output.

Actually a few weeks ago I switched from using Handbrake to using Hybrid. The audio quality is much better in Hybrid once I found out how to replace it's standard AAC codec with the Nero AAC Codec. Something not easy to do with Handbrake.

Eventually I hope to replace my old GPU with a 2080 Ti if one should ever appear, then I will be able to encode using the very fast NVIDIA encoder.

Hope this helps someone.

Some competition for the Eizo https://www.4kshooters.net/2019/08/0...ision-support/. Still a lot more expensive than a top of the line HDR 49" TV !! Could get a the TV and the new 7" Atomos for that price.

The difference is the Eizo Edid link between Edius 9 and the monitor. With Edid you can switch colorspace.

Hello

My Samsung QLED 1500Nits TV is very fussy on HDR file format.

It will only take Main 10 profile and is happy with 4:2:2 10Bit.

It will not play H264 422 High profile as it doesn't recognise High 422, only Main 10. So the Edius Exporter doesn't help me here.

As I am a Xeon hardware user, the option for H265 for me is via an intermediary to a third party app.

The only success has been via Handbrake trying to get the others I have tried to produce 422 10bit mp4 H265 that the TV understands has been a struggle.

TMPGEnc Mastering Works is up to Version 7 which has HDR 422 support, I am just asking about my upgrade cost having purchased last December. At the same time I have asked if they can upgrade their Movie Plugin for Edius to be as capable as MW7 and I await a reply, that of course would help us Xeon users.

I note that Daum Pot player is happy to report that HQX in MXF was 422 color space but did not report 422 as the HQX color space in a mov container.

The Edius color space in the bin just reports BT2020/HLG not the color sampling, except on its own H264 output in the extended properties so difficult to verify the other files.

I am of course monitoring the Edit OK via BMD Deckling 12G card with the TV manually selected, but I wanted to be able to transport a file on a memory stick, to try on other TV's meaning that Handbrake is my only option the TV is happy with. Hybrid as suggested by Claire did not produce a good HDR file for the TV.

Mike

Red face

I think 80Mbps is the highest bitrate for Samsung UHB playback. Are your files created with higher bitrates? Try 30Mbps to see if it works.

Hi Jerry, no it is in the troubleshooting page that comes up on the Samsung.

The file I made was set to 422 10Bit 25MBits CBR.

On attempt to play it on the TV "The selected file is not supported"

It says it takes up to 100Mbits/s

It says H.264 BP/MP/HP and HEVC (H265) Main,Main10

H264 UHD is supported up to level 5.1, and FHD is supported up to level 4.1. (the TV does not support FMO/ASO/RS)

HEVC UHD is supported up to level 5.1 and HEVC FHD is supported up to level 4.1.

So there we have what it will play.

The challenge is to produce a 422 UHD HLG file it is happy with.

Mike
