I always go the the manufacturers website and download the drivers from there.

Two layers of 50p UHD MXF is its limit with top layer at 50% opacity.

3 Layers of 50p UHD HQX the top two at 50% opacity, buffer just counting up.

Preview window jumpy not smooth, is ok in 29.97p project.

Premiere Pro won't handle the 50p at all needs a much faster GPU.

Dear Mike, thank you for testing!

Yes, your system is among the fastest available on the market when it comes to raw CPU power. Forget about the Fluff database since the Xeon E7 4890 V2 setup uses 4! CPU (15 physical cores x 4 x HT).

Are you running on turbo mode? What is the CPU clock speed?

It says 2.3GHz in Computer properties and power is set for performance in Windows with everything full on and no sleeping.

DR Power on MB is in Agressive mode that seems though to be just a PSU monitoring service.

I have one mystery the windows experience index won't get past Windows media decoding the screen goes black for a second and it fails to rate the PC, swapped the GPU (K4000) with another PC so it's not that.

Here are the other options not yet fiddled with, and bearing in mind I want a fast but stable system.

Ai Overclock Tune: Auto > Manual > OC Tune - set Auto
Spread Spectrum: Auto > Enabled > Disabled - set Auto
Xeon Turbo Charger: Auto > Enabled > Disabled - set Auto
CPU Line Load regulation: Auto > Levels 1-9 - set Auto
CPU Current capability: Auto > 100-140% - set Auto
CPU Power Phase Control: Auto > Standard > Optimised > Extreme - set Auto

The following I don't know the settings of yet (might only appear in tweak mode);-

CPU Power Duty Control: Thermal Balance > Current Balance
CPU Thermal control: 100-130
DRAM Current Capability: 100-140%
DRAM Switching frequency: Auto > Manual

Coming from the HP workstation camp where none of these things are available I have not played with these tweaks before. Do you have any recommendations?

Mike

Your chips are capable of a max turbo setting of 3.6GHz. If you have the cooling it might be worth the test. Edius keys from the CPU speed. Would you expect an i7 running at 2.3GHz to handle UHD. For 1 layer of UHD, having dual processors really isn't going to help.

Just so you know, the Windows Experience doesn't seem to work on the newest Xeon chipset, so there's nothing you can do to fix that.

Not forgetting of course that Edius opens up with only 36 logical cores instead of 72 on the progress bar screen, a limitation in Edius or just mis reporting?

Ah thanks Adbear it looked like Windows Experience got to a point and found something it didn't understand.

Did update the bios yesterday but I note I had to force a drive to be ready for the RAID because on the Asus MB the bios update puts the bios back to default (no RAID), which is rather annoying, all the data was still ok afterwards.

I found a good free rushes player that copes with XAVC 25,50p and long GOP called Potplayer and it works in a 1920x1200 desktop playing 4k material. Beats the Cinegy one hands down.

ICY Box IB-867 USB3 card reader has gone back as the Transcend CF card didn't fit without forcing it in (even so the pins lined up) which broke the right hand plastic guide. When it was in Windows couldn't see it, and I have the latest USB drivers in for the C3220 chip. An SD card worked.

Project UHD 25fps

I find however that I can export via GV H264 but QT exporter (for iPhone 6 Plus as it does the 44.1KHz 1920 by 1080 50p) gives me an unspecified error 0x80004005 and fails.

Or I get this process is being used by another process (0x80070020)

Exporting to 25p works

If I change the settings in Edius to 1920 by 1080 50p then export via QT to 1920 by 1080 50p it all works. So it seems that QT cannot convert UHD 25p to 50P, but UHD 25p in and out of QuickTime works.
