There a docking stations to use PCI cards with your notebook:

And Asus is on the way to integrate PCI Express:

The docking station route has always been interesting, but the non-OEM ones have always made me wonder about bandwidth...

PCI Express should be a better way to go since it's essentially a form-factor adaption versus a bridge.

There are other ways to add cards to laptops, Magma has a few, tad expensive though, I've seen others but they have been one slot additions. http://www.magma.com/index.html
I want a least three extra slots added on, one to replace the Express card slot taken up and two for other cards, then I could have the possibility of having two camera live switching.

The Magma thing looks interesting for laptop users, but I wonder if the capture software that comes with Pegasus will divide the stream into files when capturing HQ AVI? If not it'll complicate the capture process.

Divide in what way? Scenes? Audio + Video? Filesize?

No, HQ Recorder can't detect scenes. It can, however, detect an interrupt in input signals. (all part of its way in being able to automatically start recording once you start inputting video)

Oh Boy,

Can you imagine an HDMI ( Component also ) card that slips into the laptop Express slot? This would be a total killer product, it would be so cool - Laptops are now so well equipped....

Any designers out there? lets do it.

Paul
