Default Edius Waveform Cache File

I frequently export to a .wmv file for uploading to a website. For convenience this export file location ends up on the Desktop.

I have found I also get an Edius Waveform Cache File as well. Can anyone tell me what this is for, do I need it, and can I stop it appearing at the same location?

No, you are not able to stop that.
The wave form cache file stores data for EDIUS being able to draw the wave form immediately in the timeline!
The file location is the same where the associated file have been stored.
Sadly, you are not able to change the location this!

Thank you Anreas for explaining the file. I can understand the function but why it is stored where the exported file is kept, I don't understand.

I would have expected this to be kept with the project. Shame it cannot be changed.

I also would like to see a way to choose the location.
In addition to it it should be possible to prevent removable media from wave form cache file creation
& there should be a general possibility to turn the creation of wave form off!

if you upgrade to Edius 5.51, no waveform will be created when expoorting to wmv

and for all other export codecs, you can untick waveform generation in advanced export settings

Oh yes, Anton is right!
For one time export it's ok!

Sometimes I get HDD's from customer. To get a fast overview on it I drag the files in the BIN & play the stuff in EDIUS preview to sort out what's not needed!
For such reasons it would be good if the creation of wave form files could be prohibited.

OK where am I going wrong now?

I am using Edius 6.02 and exporting to .wmv, as I said, to the Desktop and it is still producing a Waveform Cache file even though the option is greyed out and not checked (see screenshot)

That's curious, the same by me! It's greyed out for many formats!
By the way, to "enable conversion" don't use settings from "recently used" folder.
These templates can't be changed!

it only works correct in Edius5

the reason why it won't work in E6 is because it has a new feature where waveforms are generated automatically for any file placed in the bin

and when you export to wmv, it will end up in the bin

I just to make sure I fully understand what you are saying Anton.

Even though the check box for Waveform Cache is clear, I should get this Waveform Cache file ending up at the same destination as the exported file?

Not only in the bin, but to removable media as well, if that is the export destination ?

Weird!
