The TMPGenc Bluray preset is for MPEG not AVC. You need to select the SPurs encode and then scroll to generic Mp4/H264 and set the parameters yourself. This will create a mpv ( for video only ) file which is still wrong for most authoring apps so needs to be changed to AVC.

I will try file in Encore later and report back but the CABAC encoded file works OK in DVD Architect.

File would not load in CS3 which is all I have loaded on the PC at the moment.

Hi Ron.

Thanks for that. In my haste I was just blown away that you could increase the bitrate higher than in Edius. Either way, it seems to be a more usefull tool when working with Tmpg.

Cheers.

I have to agree with Ron
I have tried a number of different settings in TMPG and so far nothing has been acceptable for either AVCHD on DVD or Bluray from the supposedly H264/MP4 encoder via TMPGenc, every file has been rejected or causes the authoring program to crash
H264 from either Edius or Edius/Firecoder or Firewriter works in everything except Authorworks4
BUT: It suffers from artifacts (Shimmering on X fades) the only good thing is it is fast and no one seems to notice anyway

It will work with CABAC encoding with some work for DVD Architect 5.2 which is my main Bluray authoring program. I think I will try and work at my skills with Tmpgenc Authorworks when the new TMPGenc comes out in a few days..

Hi Barry.

Have to agree with you on the x fades, but for doing fast encodes it can't be beat. Have only had FCB for a few weeks but it is very handy for the right situation. Not that this should be a guage, but most viewers do not see the problems. For a production master output I would still do a X264 over night encode for pure quality. Either way, in the right context like doing Blu-ray rushes or client approval stuff, FCB is realy cool.

Cheers.

Your suggestion is a mute point, as it is a much slower process because it does not write direct to Blu-ray. The encode will be no better, and even worse in most cases. I have tried both X264 on ultrafast at the same bit rates as exporting direct from Edius using FCB, and FCB creates a better encode. X264 will be slower on anything other than quad and dual quad core machines even at ultrafast compared to the export speed of FCB, I have tried this on a dual core and single core. Add to that the fact that you have to encode the audio as a seperate process, then do authoring in yet another app and process, and it makes your suggestion look even worse.

If you have another read at the post, you will see the point being that FCB does make a good encode, it does it very fast, and authors direct to Blu-ray. There is no other workflow for Edius that is faster.
