If the Storm is set as the output device then EDIUS is not in software mode and the STORM is sending out an SD picture. However your screen does not do SD through HDMI. It may work as NTSC frames rates, may work in 16x9 but not 4x3, but is not working at the resolution you are using.

Whether a screen will work in SD through HDMI is variable. More and more modern screens seem to work but not all of them. I could not tell you whether the new Samsung does works - the only way to find out is to try it in our experience.

This is one reason to buy the STORM HD or STORM Mobile. If the HDMI does not work in SD you can use component instead which always works (assuming you are using a TV).
