Questions regarding Edius NX + 5D Mark II + Win7 64-bit

Hi all. I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I'm an aspiring film maker who's been using a bit of everything now ready to get more serious, however I don't want to go out and get the most expensive toy I would like to understand what's in the package first and try to maintain within budget

Are these hardware components compatible with Edius NX?

Will my PC be able to handle 5D MKII format smoothly (Realtime)? MK II uses 1080 30p in raw as I understand and based on reading it is suggested that it should be converted to Canopus HQ right? I'm still quite fresh at this exploring the DSLR filmmaking world and Edius', but both seem to be very interesting niche's with great capability.

Another question which I'm not sure has been resolved (though it has been asked before but those posts date back up to a year ago..)
Can Edius 5 NX work with Windows 7 64 bit? I was told it works with 32 bit but it seems limiting as I have 8gb of RAM (update: will upgrade to 12GB RAM)... Vista is sloppy OS in my opinion but if no other choice I guess I can install it also... Thanks again for taking time aside to read this.. I am planning to purchase the editing card upcoming Tuesday.

P.S. What is the performance difference between Edius NX card with PCIe and PCI-X ?

Edius will open the native files, but as you already know, HQ conversion is the current way to go.

Yes, E5 and NX work well under Win7 x64, with a few limitations.

Sorry if this is too silly just the shop here that provides Canopus products the staff was unable to answer my questions in fact told they cannot install the hardware/software on a win7 x64 machine =P

On most 7 x64 systems the Vista x64 driver works flawless.
No Seven driver available as of yet :)

Hi, sorry to say I have no idea about AMD's capabilities compared with Intel, your clock speed looks good tough.
If a system is setup well while using Canopus HQ the requirements for playing HD footage by it self are not high at all, the problem starts when applying a filter or two, there is where the greater power is needed.
My self also have not very high spec'ed systems by today's standards but hey, they are still Xeon's and nicely play along with HDV footage and many layers :)

it have no experiance with Full HD and your millage may vary there, as long as you choose the correct project settings for you footage, and don't do strange un-needed upconverting, meaning, HDV on a HD timeline, Edius will perform beyond your expectations ........

P.s if I'm not wrong a PCIe NX has a little bit less strain on the system than a PCIx, the mechanical connection of the PCIx card is far better than the PCIe card, but this board is hard to find new.

Your GPU card should be fine, if you edit style requiers much GPU effects than an upgrade might be in order while working in full HD.

As long as the video ram is 1Gb or larger you should be fine, GV minimum requierment is a bit on the skinny side, from 512Mb and up it starts to work smooth, as mentioned 1Gb and up is smooth as butter, no need for high end unless you use third party apps for compositing etc.

This review has the 940 x4 amost comparable with the i7 920 in hd rendering/editing with Ppro cs4 so I imagine the 965 with increased clock speed would be better

Do you guys think the GEFORCE GT 240 is a significant step down from the GeForce 9800 GX2? Let's say if GT240 is OK for use with Edius, what about other applications such as Photoshop, After Effects... Thanks =)) (the reason I got the GT240 because 9800gtx2 is a big one and there wasn't enough space to put the Edius NX hardware...)

I've edited HD on an Edius system about 1/4 as powerful as yours, AMD, under Win 7--just, as others have recommended here, make sure to convert your footage to Canopus HQ. That's how you can ensure best performance.
