Default Edius 6 Layouter resize quality poorer?

I often have to use 4:3 footage in 16:9 projects (SD) and have used the layouter tool to resize the clips, i.e "fit to width", and the results have been quite acceptable.

However performing the exact same task in Edius 6 gives a much poorer quality result with obvious blockiness & aliasing.

Have had to uninstall 6 and reinstall 5.51 because the quality drop is quite evident to me.

Has anyone else observed this?

well funny u mention this - I too, today did some photo sweeping zooming in and out with the layouter and the 1st thing I noticed was the aliasing on thin lines. So yea good call - does seem E6 has a lower quality resample algorithm going on compared with E5.

Possibly to compensate for the slight slow down of E6 this was needed to maintain the realtime performance. shame really as resizing was good in E5.

If you own Imaginate, you can still use it. The only thing that changed was
the .ivp file import.
I never used that method anyway due to the alpha loss on export. My files end up being used on different computers across a network.
So, try Imaginate stand alone and import the file into Edius. Just learn to backtime, as in radio.

As you say it is a shame because it makes E6 unusable for me for now...

Yeah, shame for me too if this is the case- I will stick with 5 for a while. I love the layout tool's ability to pan and zoom around photos in the best possible quality, without flickering, nice ease-in and out of the motion. I use it a lot- as well as re-sizing.
Hope this is just a rumour :)

It's not flickering, it is noticable banding/blockiness and aliasing/stairstepping artifacts

The quality loss is similar in look to exporting HD to dvd and not using Anton's TmpgEnc method

If you would read my original post I am talking about upscaling a 4:3 video clip to fit a 16:9 width project...

I don't know what relevance your test has?

Mattie mentioned that he did a still with zoom in it. That was the relevance.
Here is the 4x3 to 16x9 video:

Personally, I don't use pixel stretching. This is passible if performed in an HD timeline and then
dropped down for DVD.
I use wings for my corporate clients. They love that...and the video stays native.
