The price on the Academic versions is so low, I wouldn't expect to see an upgrade offered.

At one point, if I remember correctly, it did have an upgrade path.
You just can't use the Academic in a professional setting.

There will not be an upgrade for EDIUS v5 for Education. The cost of a new, full license of EDIUS v6 for Education ($159) will be less than the cost of the upgrade that the non-academic version of EDIUS v5 will cost to upgrade to EDIUS v6 ($299).

I think BH has Edius for like $630. (BTW which is why I thought the $300 upgrade price was heavy its half the price I just buying a new license).

These are not educational prices. It always bugs me when the head of sales gives an answer and it has to questioned.

Default Academic

What is/is not included with the Academic version? If my son is a college student and buys it for his use, why could he not use it to produce something for profit? It looks like the only limit is on future purchases. So, he won't be a student when it's time to upgrade again so he has to buy the full version then.

Software is intellectual property. We buy and use it subject the license agreement terms established by the owner. Not much different than video you or I might produce, or music we might buy to incorporate in a video we produce.

Further, a software product like Edius is a composite of intellectual property from several sources, content Edius creats for it and such content, with license terms, as may be on portions owned by others (e.g., libraries, add-ins, and bundles) that are incorporated in Edius.

However, I would not care speculate on whether or not the intellectual property police will come beating on his door if he does the occasional paid wedding while a student using the academic version.

The full, list price for EDIUS v6 new is $799 USD.
The full, list price for EDIUS v6 Upgrade is $299.

A $500 difference is pretty significant at less than 1/3 the cost.

B&H is a reseller that purchases GV products for resale through our distributors. They do not have a direct resale agreement with GV, and are thus free to sell products at whatever price they deem profitable. The fact that they lower the cost of the full license more than the cost of the upgrade that makes the upgrade look less significant in savings doesn't help us much when you put it like that, but at the same time, you can get either one for less money than if you were to pay full price.

I fail to see the problem.
