no stuttering with hd-material

Edius 5.5: I am looking for a hardware recommendation of a collegue who REALLY works with P2 avcintra 50/100 and P2 dvchd pro material and succeded to run and edit in real-time without any stuttering and without any tricks like producing proxy-files, premature downscaling, etc. Txs for any help.

I can edit avc-intra 100 files all day on a Core 2 Extreme system. An I7 would give him many layers of RT. AVC-Intra is very similar to The Canopus HQ codec that is the mainstay codec of Edius.

I was just a station today running that exact same thing with my laptop (of course it is a kick a$$ laptop). Ran 4 streams all day. Fifth stream ran for about 15 secs before dropping frames. AVC Intra 50

here it stutters on both: HP XW6000 with dual Pentium4 3,06 MHz each and on HP NW9440 with Centrino Duo 2,17MHz / T7400. Are there any adjustable parameters to improve Edius itself, like buffers, etc.?

Neither of those processors will be able to cope with AVC-Intra 50/100. The compression algorithm is similar to H.264 but the bitrate as much higher, meaning that even a system that can handle H.264 may struggle with AVC-Intra.

Since a P4 or Centrino Duo aren't really adequate for H.264, they don't have a chance of working smoothly with AVC-Intra.

I do not have a P2 camcorder but I do have an AVCAM and on the Panasonic registered users website I think that should be able to download and install their conversion utility for P2 files, this utility will convert the files into somethin gthat your system can accomodate.

Not the answer you are currently after but this could be a stop gap.

thank you - but I am using P2 hd avcintra and want to keep it (as Edius has the right codec) native.
