The Spurs Engine is the processor on the FireCoder Blu card, made by Toshiba and also found on at least one other card by leadtek and possibly more..?
To call the plugin by tmpeg the Spurs Engine is technically incorect but we do understand your question. So to answer the question, the plugin is fantastic for Mpeg targets including Blu-ray disc, giving much more control over parameters and rock solid compatibility with Adobe Encore and SONIC programs. However on the H264 Mpeg side it does not create proper video for Blu-ray disc. (then again GV own software has little to smile about when it comes to compliancy.) It's good with some real limitations, which pretty much sums up the whole Spurs Engine con.

they don't have a Blu-ray preset for h264, if you make your own it wont work.

There isn't a preset but one can set the spurs encode to generic AVC, CABAC, VBR( use settings to get the appropriate bit rate), encode just ES video. Change type to AVC and DVD Architect will use without re encoding. I encode audio separately either in TMPGenc or from Vegas. Source file is a HQ fine file. DVD Architect will not accept a CAVLC encode without wanting to re-encode. The TMPGenc Spurs plugin will encode AVC at about 80% of realtime so is quite fast enough and has the usual TMPGenc advantages of being able to see how the bit rate fills the disc on a nice file size graphic.
On encode it shows spurs engine active, CPU 100%, CUDA 0 % ( didn't have any filters active). Ron Evans

The latest TMPGEnc has Spurs presets for Blu-ray, do you know if they work with your authoring apps? The bitrate options go higher than FCB exports from Edius. Cheers. Dave. |

When I last checked AVC it didn't work with Encore (may have been CS4). I don't have the latest DVD Architect to check.
