Default ADVC-55, VHS tapes and color problems

I have an ADVC-55 hooked up to a Mac G4 desktop via firewire and an LG VCR via RCA cables. The VCR does not support S-video or SCART output. Trying to convert some old VHS tapes I made from TV in the US years ago and will ultimately try to convert some old home movies as well if all works properly. Using iMovie 6 HD. Everything is set to NTSC. The tapes play well and in color when I hook up the VCR to my TV (Sony Bravia) but the capture is in black and white. Audio and picture quality is otherwise fine.

I have scanned the forums here and have noticed others with similar problems but I didn't find a definitive resolution. I would appreciate any help and suggestions.

Chances are, either your VCR or TV has NTSC compatibility, but the VCR output is not true NTSC. This is a common problem.

You require true NTSC output to capture NTSC video with the ADVC.

Default Thanks.

I was afraid it would be something like that since I subsequently tried a PAL VHS tape and it seemed to work OK. Thanks for your time.

No problem. If you do some searching on eBay, you may find a cheap secondhand NTSC vcr out there.
