Edius can encode to mp4 but not as good as Handbrake. I rather do the extra step to use handbrake then have issues.... its not a race to have it done.. |

Handbrake does x264 which is far better at lower bitrates, I only use 8M for full HD USB and it does dual pass

I use Fat32 for all USB and none of my files are larger than 4GB, most dance numbers go for 3min each

FWIW, this has been discussed before and unlike Anton I never constrain myself with FAT 32. I have USBs going out almost daily. On long form stuff like shows I always use NTFS. NEVER exFat as way too many TVs haven't caught up yet.

I always go NTFS for my formatting of USB's so can't comment on Ex-Fat. Like I said I have had people say to me that 1920x1080 50P won't play a file but 720 50P does. UPDATE: Just tested x6 different TV's and all are playing 1920x1080 25P fine. The clips range from 6 to about 40 minutes in length and the USB is formatted to NTFS. I have some larger concerts coming up where I will pump out about 120 USB's per concert so this gives me confidence that 1080 25P is a pretty safe bet. Thanks everyone for their input. I stick with Fat 32 as it works in PC, all Mac and all TV
all my programs have files that are way smaller than the 4GB Fat 32 limit a dance concert may consist of 40 files of around 300MB each

So Anton what you are suggesting is that FAT32 = better playback results than NTFS. ie 1080 50P will play on FAT32 but possibly not NTFS (depends on the person's TV).
But this doesn't help me when I produce football games that sees large files in 1080 50P and a game is in four qtrs that run for 30 minutes each. I mean who wants to drop the bitrate down just to get under 4 gig? I guess you can but its not ideal. I'm at a point where I think I will just be saying to my customers that "A small % of TV's may not play via your USB port" A firmware upgrade may fix this or simply play via a laptop plugged in via HDMI to your TV. Regarding dance show's again its tricky for in my case some shows sees an act flow straight into another one and the end user watching it at home might prefer to see the show back as it was and not via smaller clips. Then again smaller clips means instant access to the act they really want to watch. BRING BACK VHS? Lol |

you have no idea of the Handbrake quality at low bitrate because you have not tried
older Macs will not see NTFS some older TVs will not see NTFS so I stick with Fat32 for now
