The chips that support HEVC encoding are the A10 and new A11. The iPhone 7 was the first to have an A10 chip in it. Unfortunately, the iPhone 6s doesn't make the cut here. Phones with Headphone jacks do not do HEVC.

Installed 9.5

HLG HEVC out from TMPEG 3840 by 2160 under cursor on the timeline.

System report generated at 3/4 way through loading every time "taking too long to process".

Taking the clip off the timeline stops the system report generation.

Edius will not play the file at any playback resolution it just chokes and takes a long time to think about what it's doing. Has to be persuaded to produce a picture in the REC monitor.

Buffer counts up to 3 and back to 1

Let me know how you get on

It loads fine in EDIUS 8.53 and EDIUS 9.5 but will only play at 1/2 or lower and still with buffer hovering around 1 or 2 not usable. By contrast it plays fine in Resolve Studio 16.1 Beta 3 also downres through the IP4K to my monitor for preview at 1920x1080 too.

I can get it to play at 1/2 res in a 10-bit project sandwiched in between two ProRes clips. Otherwise it will start out and drop to between 1 and 3 buffer frames as a stand alone file, even in 8bit. The file displays a lot of flickering on my computer monitor but only audio his heard on the LG HDR TV.
MediaInfo shows it to be BT2020 so I set my project to PQ.
Since it won't play properly on my tv, there must be a setting that is off.
Does it play properly on your TV and trigger the HDR indicator?

I will tell you now, playing H.265 is a pain for older machines, even those with QS. Playback should be better on newer systems with a lot of fast cores. As far as 10bit QS decoding, anything from a 7700k going forward should be able to play this file.
The 6700k is geared for 8bit.

Yes sorry that isn't a good file I now have TMPEG Mastering works 7, I was playing around with all sorts of encoders prior to that and that file was sadly one of the not good results and no it won't play on the TV

The new Wetransfer file https://we.tl/t-1zV2o2XCap will play on the TV and will set HLG on the Samsung QE55 QLED TV, but will not play in Edius and in fact Edius gets very upset trying to play the file at 1/16th quality.

Attempting to play the file only drives my CPU's to 15%, so Edius in my hardware environment doesn't want to know, and Jerry it looks like you don't have the latest hardware to try it on not sure what your situation is Ron.

Playing the file in Daum pot player on the desktop the GPU core is at 3% and the CPU's at 3.4%, so that job is easy for the PC to accomplish, but as we have already discussed that isn't on the fly converting the file for native editing within an edit program at the same time.

Just for reference Premiere Pro won't play it either but I don't think that has got HDR sorted out very well, nowhere near as well as it is in Edius, in terms of generating new HDR material from SLOG3.

This test is assuming the footage material is HDR such as produced by the Sony FDR-AX700 in HLG, but it should be equally valid to generate the HLG material via SLOG3 and bring back in the end result.

Because of my hardware I am unable to test exporting to HEVC via Intel QS in HLG HDR and bringing it back into the timeline and testing playback. It would be good to see if someone can try it as Edius should be able to play all material it generates, and this excludes external encoder factors, but doesn't mean bit shouldn't play those externally encoded files, especially those the HDR TV is happy to play back.
