Probably best to stick with Edius 7.Upgrades usually come with the new features already built in, not "in future revisions". So things you are hoping for may never get put in. I do not like the path Grass Valley is taking.

All those BM devices look like they can use the pre V10 drivers, so it looks like no official support for the V10.x drivers yet

Last week I showed Edius 8 with a BMD Extreme 4K (driver 10.4.1) at a trade show and everything worked fine.

I agree. It is almost like "crowd funding" Edius 8, getting folks to invest now with only hope that new functions happen some time in the next two years.

Yes it does seem to work fine, but they still aren't officially supported. So when things do go wrong they don't have to fix it

Default EDIUS Pro 8 & Workgroup 8 Comparison

To be honest I think the way GV is presenting the data is very unfortunate. While they are trying to make Workgroup seem a more upmarket product they are also making Pro seem very limited. Which in fact it is not. Here is a Comparison Table from the v8 manual which is more useful than the marketing flyer and makes things seem less extreme. However, I am intrigued to know exactly what they mean by "Audio Monitoring Mode"? Can anybody tell me please?

This was introduced in Edius 7 Pro, now to be removed in Edius Pro 8. This is how it works:

I am making short video which will show the new interface, GV browser and what the differences are between Workgroup and Pro. I hope to post it in the next couple of days on our YouTube channel.

Grass Valley are not asking you to fund development of a new version. They have said they are bringing one out, there will be a few things in it now and more in the future. If you buy it now you will get the future updates. Alternatively don't buy it until it has something you want.

What we do know is that there will only be upgrades to version 8 from version 7 so if you have an older version and want to upgrade take advantage of the EDIUS jumpgrade before the end of June (i.e. next Tuesday).

BTW I have been using EDIUS 8 with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K and the UltraStudio 4K with no problems using the 10.4.1 drivers. This is just as I have been doing with EDIUS 7. Grass Valley said they are going to officially support version 10 drivers in EDIUS 8 but I suspect that is one of the features not yet implemented. Unofficially they work.

Ok. Thanks. Yes, I remember now. I never used it, so no loss if I upgrade to v8 Pro. At first sight I thought v8 Pro was going to become the new Neo and we were being pushed upmarket, but personally I think the potential advantage of the new Browser alone will justify an upgrade from 7.5 to v8 Pro. It's not as bad as I initially thought.
