And I have some 14:9 film transfers which show sprocket holes and light leaks at the sides so I have to crop them to 13:9 and then (esp if using the Layouter) I sometimes end up having to trim a few...

(Un)intelligent rendering?
In Edius 9 WG, I put a mask on a shot with a YUV curve to lift a central person moving about a lot. It needed rendering. OK.
After a few previews, I unticked the mask just to check the difference....
