Laptop specs

I need to upgrade to a new laptop. Am running Edius 8.2 Workgroup. Laptop is NOT the primary editor. For that I have a dedicated workstation. Laptop is for quick edits while on the road for subsequent transfer to workstation. Will also be running basic Photoshop etc. NO INTENSIVE 3D MODELLING APPS.

With that said, I am looking for a definitive specification checklist for a new laptop. The biggest question I have relates to video specs. I have heard that just the basic Intel integrated video with 2gb ram is good, 6 is better. And that high end, dedicated video cards like Nvidia etc. are not necessary and infact may have a negative impact. I will be editing mostly HD and 4K but not producing 4k final output.

At minimum, the system will have i7 quad core, 16gb ram, 256gb SSD for boot and 1T HDD 7200 rpm data drive.

So I turn to you, the Edius experts. My goal is to stay well under $2k.

Thanks for your help.

What about my questions regarding integrated Intel video versus dedicated (as an example) nVidia GPU?

Assuming you are not using many third party effects the onboard video should work fine. The rest of your specs look good.

I would look at Sager. These can also be customized with desktop processors.

Other than this are gaming laptops, which will be heavier.

so i am with 4k just got hp zbook and it can handle 4k
