Build highend PC for EDIUS
I am looking for new Computer for 4K footage from ARRI Alexa /Prores 4444 50p/. Has somebody real experiences with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX or Intel Core i9-9980XE in Edius? Which is better for editing, handling with a large files? I need to have a realtime playback, cause the Edius does not support generating proxy from Prores 4444. I really like the editing with Edius, but this is frustrating.

If you will go by AMD 2990wx:

intel of course
In geral the tests will give AMD the best places in processors ranking , but in day work the intel with the quicksync win by far the hottest AMD

As a guide my 1920 Threadripper ( 12 core ) is faster than my 4790K with QS in EDIUS and the Bluray export ( which uses QS ) on the 4790K is about the same time for export with the EDIUS m2ts export using my Threadripper 1920. So I have not missed QS so far. However Resolve and Vegas are a LOT faster with the Threadripper. So if you are only going to use EDIUS than I think a new 9900K would be the choice. If you intend to use other software as well then you may find that the Threadripper with fast GPU will be faster as well as having a lot more PCIe lanes for peripherals. I would certainly wait until after Computex to see when AMD parts will be available even the new Ryzen 3000 parts may fit the bill too. Large files will need fast hard drives too and THreadripper will give you a lot more PCIe lanes to work with as well as fast GPU. QS will not benefit PRoRes either.

Yes, save your money for a lot of fast hard drive space. I can't imagine what size 4k 444 50p footage is per minute. If you have multiple streams that is some serious bandwidth. Easy on the processor though!

The other advantage of Threadripper motherboards like mine is that they have two or three M2 slots for NVME drives with full PCIe access to processor directly and can also operate in RAID0 !!!
