Bm intensity pro 4k frame rate

Hi, my camera original material is UHD 50p. My EDIUS 8 WG project is set as UHD 25p. If I install a BM Intensity Pro 4K will it display the output from EDIUS on a UHD 25p monitor? Or is the UHD 50p camera original an issue?

Hi Rick.

For UHD, the BM and Edius will only show 25, so nothing from a 50 timeline, a 25 timeline will be fine but without the temporal characteristics of the 50 sources.

For 50 you could set the project to 1080 and switch back to UHD for final export/render. Although this obviously means you can't make proper UHD judgements externally at 50.

Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks, Dave. I was really wanting to know if 50p shots on a 25p timeline will be displayed by a BM Intensity Pro 4K on a UHD 25p monitor? In other words, will the 50p shots be regarded as 25p by the BMIP?

Hi Rick.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.

If you're in a 25 project and use 50 footage, then you can monitor at 25.

I do similar with 30/60.

I've not done 25/50, but you may need to change how Edius plays out the conversion as you may get frame blending. Although you'd think that Edius would just choose the first frame and jump/ignore the second, I've a feeling that I've seen it blend them in the past. If that's the case just choose nearest neighbour.

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave, thanks. That is what I needed to know. Cheers.

If you need 50P/60p monitoring to a monitor that supports it this can be done in EDIUS 9

Not at UHD with the card that Rick is talking about.

Thanks Steve, but unfortunately my 4K monitor does not support 50p/60p, nor does the BM Intensity Pro 4K which I intend to use. I will edit the 50p camera orginal material in a 25p project. In any case, the finished video will be linked to a corporate website and available as 1920x1080 25p. Shooting in UHD will allow me more freedom to crop shots. In my opinion UHD generally produces a crisper 1920x1080 image.

if you have 9WG, you can change output conversion in EDIUS preview device settings, so even 50p will display on a TV that does not support it

that way you can edit in 50p and see what you are doing on the big screen

Brilliant. Very useful info. Thanks Anton. And thanks also to Steve and Dave.
