EDIUS.NET talks to Alex Kataoka at IBC 2016

Product manager Alex Kataoka present the new features of Grass Valley EDIUS 8.22 at IBC 2016 in Amsterdam and gives an overview over HDR usage and an outlook to the upcoming EDIUS Version 8.3 which will be released in the end of this year. See the video here https://youtu.be/6vWONuJpGkg

Not a lot of new information in the video, rather disappointing to hear that we will not see Edius 8.3 for another 3 months.

I was sort of hoping that IBC would show an update for Edius, but I guess that the Quicktime issue has delayed things?

You call the coming features disappointing? Sorry but I don't get it when I look at the mentioned improvements:

- Optical Flow (slomo, frame rates)
- Support of additional formats
- Smaller functional improvements
- GUI improvements (4K monitors)
- Broader use of rendering engine

If you read my post, I said it was disappointing that Edius 8.3 is not arriving until the end of the year. All the forthcoming features mentioned were in the Edius 8 roadmap. These features are not disappointing, but following the NAB video, I had hoped that Edius 8.3 would be arriving around the time of IBC.

8.22 has been released just a few weeks ago. So I didn't expect 8.30 to be ready now. The Quicktime issue messed up a lot of timetables in the industry.

This is all great news. When GV released E8 they said they would be adding features, and this is exactly what they are doing. Give it until the end of the year and Edius will be quite a different beast from what it was before 8.

This whole timeline for the development for 8 is unmatched by anything we've had or seen before.

Very exciting.
