I have just bought the essential plugins. I' have tried to use it with an underwater clip with some flash inside (the clip have a strong blu dominance) but without any success... Using it at the minimum thresold generate a poor video quality with frame drop. But the most problematic is the stability of the plugins, my Edius 5.01 crash very often...

NewBlue Essentials - Edius 4.6 Crashing

We bought Essentials and the color fixer does a great job. My problem is that Edius has crashed 4 times today and has crashed 0 times over the last year. We get a Windows "Sorry Edius must be shut down" type of message. This is an SD project with two video tracks and 4 audio. There are no audio VSTs installed in Edius. Thus far, this project has no effects on the audio.

Windows XP Pro SP3, Dual Xeon 3.4 ghz, 4 gigs RAM, Quadro FX1300, NX PCI-X, Edius 4.6. All the latest drivers and Windows updates are installed.

It should work, so we'd like to look at his. Could you post a short section of the clip to an ftp site so we can download and try it? Or send me an email and I'll give you an ftp location.

    Thanks,
    Todor

Well, I'd rather not talk about what we might have in the future, but do please keep telling us what you want to see.

Sorry - that wasn't much of an answer!

    Thanks,

    Hey Rusty,

Thanks for catching our "Oops". We also had an effect called Noise Reducer which does noise reduction. However, we just weren't happy with the results and felt it would better not to include it unless we felt really good about it. So, at the last minute we removed it. Unfortunately, in the build process, an old copy of the plugin was still there and made its way into the install, like an angry ghost back to haunt us! It's Noise Reducer only in name because Noise Reducer really is gone and so it points to the same place in our essentials dll as does Pixelator. However, you aren't missing anything.

We will have that gone in a slipstream release any day now. It's harmless, but nevertheless annoying.

As for Flash Remover, I agree... We need to work on the presets. I always find I need to turn it way down too. I'm glad you like it - we're already getting raves about it and Color Fixer from users.

    Thanks,

    Todor

    Hea Todor,
I'm checking out the Video Essentials and trying to get a grip on what may be the only feature I'm interested in... the Flash Remover.

Install went perfectly, but I see no effect on my "flashed" subject? Is this correct, or did I miss something?
    >edit<
Yes, I did miss something, the Threshold must be lower for bright flashes! Quite the opposite I expected from the "Bright" preset. (I guess the presets refer to the ambient lighting.)

I think I see another problem... Noise Reducer is not available, instead Pixelator is there in place of Noise Reducer (twice!)

Flash Remover looks so good I may spring for this soon!

All of the functions are already in Edius. It just puts them under one heading.
$79 isn't that bad either. That is, if they work they way they are described.
    Thanks! We appreciate the compliment.

And, unless my EDIUS installation is missing some stuff (entirely possible), there are quite a few filters in here that are unique - Detail Enhancer, Flash Remover, Touch Up and Pixelator being examples.

But, you can always download the trial versions to check them out and decide for yourself.

One last thing: Try out Color Fixer Plus.

And, please let us know what you'd like to see next. Many of our best suggestion come from customers (flash remover was suggested by a frustrated wedding vidoegrapher, for example.)

    Thanks,

    Todor
