  • Titlers - need some recommandations again

    Hello,

I have seen in another thread that Edius 9 is coming with NewBlue Titler Pro (via download).

Question 1 : Can I also used it with Edius 8.3xx Workgroup ?

Question 2: Some month ago I have followed advice and buy Vistitle for Edius (with dongle).

    1. - I need some advice of comparison between Vistitle and NewBlue Titler Pro. What would you recommand.

    2. - I have some clients that ask me help and training regularly. They are in Edius 8 or 9. So if I go to NewBlue Titler Pro... I have a standard for everybody... it's more simple for me...

The question is : should I push my client to acquire Vistitle also because point 1.

    Thanks to advice

    Hello,

Question 1 : Can I also used it with Edius 8.3xx Workgroup ?
It may or may not work, but in order to get it legally in the first place, you have to purchase E9.

Question 2: Some month ago I have followed advice and buy Vistitle for Edius (with dongle).
Did you get your free digital license before the October 31st deadline?

    1. - I need some advice of comparison between Vistitle and NewBlue Titler Pro. What would you recommand.
Since in your next question you mention that you are training users regularly, this should mean that you are proficient in both Vistitle and New Blue TItler Pro. If this is the case, you should know the difference between Vistitle and NB titler Pro and be able to steer your clients to what works best for them.

    2. - I have some clients that ask me help and training regularly. They are in Edius 8 or 9. So if I go to NewBlue Titler Pro... I have a standard for everybody... it's more simple for me...
I have every titler(plugin) that works within Edius: Vistitle, Heroglyph 4, New Blue Titler Pro Ultimate 6, New Blue Titler Pro Edius 9 version, and Quicktitler. I would have the client download each titler's trial version and then they can make the decision. Another outside option is Bluff Titler.

The question is : should I push my client to acquire Vistitle also because point 1.

    A. I will admit that I am biased on the titlers. I've used Vistitle since it's original release and prefer it over all others. When you purchase Vistitle(with the plugins), you are getting more than a titler. You are also getting a particle engine, 2D to 3D title and geometry creator, and a 3D modeler.
If you only want a titler, then Quicktitler in E8 or E9 or the free version of New Blue Titler Pro will suffice. One last thing. Of all of the 3rd party titlers, Vistitle is the most efficient. It operates as a native Edius module would.
It was written specifically for Edius. New Blue, will require more CPU and GPU power to process complicated titles. On top of that, each title has to be rendered by NB before the interface is released and you are returned to the Edius desktop.

    B. There is a difference between The free NB titler Pro Edius version and the paid NB titler Pro 6 standard or Ultimate versions. The free version is based on Titler Pro 5. At this point, there is still a bug in the library display panel. New Blue has known about this bug since the release of Edius 9. This bug does not exist in the paid release version of either TP5 Pro or TP6 Pro. You will need higher CPU and GPU components to push some of the presets or extra templates. Good luck getting consistent realtime use, especially with complicated title projects on older or slower systems.

Also, all titles that are created are not saved in the project folder as with Quicktitler or Vistitle. If the user creates a title, places on the timeline and accidently deletes it, that title is gone; Unless, the title is saved through the Titler Pro interface. This takes time and you must update this manually after each change in order to save the current existing title.

    C. If you need onscreen customizable animated handwriting, Heroglyph 4 is the only titler that can give you that. Vistitle's current handwriting plugin is extremely slow, but does work and New Blue's is not as customizable as Heroglyph's. Heroglyph 4 is a good titler and is closer to realtime with similar hardware that Vistitle would use than New Blue.
Heroglph also doesn't save it's files to the Edius project folder. However, it automatically places a thumbnail in the bin and you can track the saved file to a folder. This makes it more user friendly than NB.

    D. The non-plugin titler for Edius is Bluff Titler. I like having it for fancy smancy titles that can be created very quickly, especially, if you get the extra Biz Packs. I would get a 3rd party plugin titler and Bluff Titler to set along side of each other in your toolbox.

The best thing to do is download all of the trials and go through them one by one. There is no need to push a client into purchasing a more feature packed and expensive program if they will never utilize the features.

If they are using an underpowered system, New Blue will give them fits. If all they want are simple titles, then Quicktitler or the free E9 NB Titler pro will work for them. Once they have worked with the basic titlers, they can decide whether or not they need something differerent.

Waouh Jerry, this is really a complete and precious answer. Thank you for that. I am very well informed by you. Morover, you have a wide experience in several titlers and you know the traps of each one...

So, I will stay on learning Vistitle gently. The client has QT (and in the past also Title Motion Pro). Their decision will be to follow me or not in Vistitle.

Question 2: Some month ago I have followed advice and buy Vistitle for Edius (with dongle).
Did you get your free digital license before the October 31st deadline?
No I did not, I miss that step because time... I will only start the use (2.606) in the next days, and I suppose that it will work with the dongle. I expect that the upgrade will work later...

Thanks again very much for your long and complete answer. It will certainly help others users.

      Have a nice Black Friday

I would contact them now to get that digital license. I don't know what the cost will be since you missed the October 31st deadline.
When version 2.9 is released your dongle will not work with it. The dongle is good through the 2.8x versions.

As of July this year you can use online activation. It's been mentioned here plenty of times!

I miss Title Motion Pro very much. None of the present titlers will do what it did which is plain word processing using tabs from an imported text file. Since it is not now available I just use Quicktitler and manage with that. It just takes longer. Any fancy titles can always be done in a stand alone titler or even Fusion titles in the free Resolve 15 ( it doesn't do what Title Motion Pro did either !!! ).

TMP was a great titler for sure. I used to sell it in a previous life before Inscriber was gobbled up by Harris/Imagine or wharever they called themselfes at the time. I never used Edius back then but I would imagine it was just as capable in Edius as it was in the other softwares I used and sold.

It was a sad day when it disappeared.

It's time to get over the loss of a word processor in the titler. That feature is long gone. This method has been replaced by having the user make their own templates that can be easily modified.

In Vistitle, I have made templates for single, dual, triple and a combination off these column scrolls. It's just a matter of changing the names and colors.

Jerry we have been through this before and I am sorry but none of the titlers make life easy starting with a text file. Yes they will all work with multiple columns so that one is right justified and the other left justified and one in the middle centered. However the user then has to extract from the single text file what goes into each of the columns. That is a lot of work. Also I do not want to type in all the names to each column and get them wrong . Then correct etc. Very time consuming. I have come to accept Quicktitler and now make it work fine for me though takes a lot longer than before. Maybe 20 times longer or more. To make columns in any of the titlers would take even longer. I have tried and do not want to do that.

I do not need anything fancy just scrolling credits at the end. I do amateur productions so there are a lot of people involved. I did two shows in the last three weeks and each had about 90 people in credits list, from my quess, 8 different nationalities. Spelling is important and I do not want to get it wrong so that is why I want to use the text file given. Using a combination of left justified and centered I have been able to get the credit roll to look decent. Why none of the titlers can put basic tabs in is beyond me. They can fly in characters, spray them with particles but cannot do a simple tabs alignment !!! Sorry I am not impressed and certainly will not buy any of them. If I want fancy titles Fusion in Resolve is likely better than most of them and free.

Here's a video that shows how quickly I can turn around a scroll using a text file with a template. The template is modular and only the parts that need to be modified can be modified.
All of the work is performed in the text file. The text files are left justified and the spacing between names is remembered. The rest is adjusted within the titler.

Jerry you are already starting with a nice clean aligned text file. Attached is the sort of text file I get. With Title Motion Pro that would be one click on each line to get fully justified scroll, done. Anything now requires effort. I have accepted that just spacing ( rather than using a tab ) on each line and I can get Quicktitler to do it. With your approach I would first have to align text in a word processor to allow me to use the template. I could not also get any crossover from the right and left justified text as the columns have to be unique and separate. Yes I could change columns afterwards to get the overlap.. More effort. For example construction crew etc people right justified, will overlap the left justified function title. Happens with a few classes that have a lot of people in them. In this case Construction, Costumes, Canteen, FOH volunteers. Overlap is not much on the final, and not on the first line underneath but is there to make sure the font is large enough to read and the title doesn't go on scrolling for ever !!!
