anyone use either of these? I have a stand alone TMPGEnc videoworks 6 and while it would be nice to run from withing Edius - the price for each seems excessive

I prefer the stand alone TMPGenc too. I export a HQX file from the timeline.
If you shoot 50P you have all the choices available to you afterward. 50P, 50i and 25P. If you shoot 25P that is all you have to play with. I am NTSC so shoot 60P all the time on the cameras that can do that. I like the smooth look of a faster frame rate so stay with that. However if one likes the slower frame rates it is easy to put onto a slower frame rate project. Much easier for the NLE to leave things out than create !!!Ron Evans

There is nothing wrong with having the both the plugins and the stand alone.
I prefer having export directly from the timeline. There are more controls from both the MPEG and AVC export plugins than the native Edius encoders Especially, dual pass AVC.
If you get into the panel, there are just as many setup options for an AVC export as in the stand alone.
The MPEG encoder plugin hasn't had an interface update in a while. The Stand Alone version has a few more options. The quality from both is very good.
If exporting using the AVC plugin, it will take longer to export, but the file can be smaller with the same quality.
If you also save an HQX file as a master, then the stand alone would be a better choice for you.
It comes down to how much you are willing to spend and what your requirements are.Jerry

Why do you think Anton 25p for DVD is a bad choice? If the video has little motion scenes I sometimes make 25p DVD in TMPGEnc DVD Authoring works. I know other DVD authoring programs including EDIUS will wrongfully convert 25p to 50i when exporting to DVD but TMPGEnc does it to the proper DVD book standard.Check out posts on this forum: Sync markers from PluralEyes version 3 or 4 http://forum.grassvalley.com/forum/s...021#post280021 Syncing by Timecode with Tentacle Sync http://forum.grassvalley.com/forum/s...330#post280330 Converting Sequence markers to Clip markers. http://forum.grassvalley.com/forum/s...898#post281898Comment

The DVD standard requires interlaced, top field first in PAL and NTSC
you can make progressive if you wish and if you have little motion, but many DVD players display it stuttery, even a person standing at a lectern and just moving his/her hands already looks stuttery
if you play the DVD on a Blu-ray player via HDMI out, you will get a better result if using progressiveAnton Strauss

Likely playback a DVD from an upscaling BLuray player to a HD display will convert whatever the input to 60P in NA or 50P in PAL land I think over HDMI depending on how the player was setup with the display. So for interlaced video one is watching the capabilities of the player deinterlacing. Both my Sony`s seem pretty good to my eyes and the image is sharper with 1920x1080 60i than shooting 1280x720 60P.Ron Evans

I had the stand alone package and bought the plug-in as I had a lot of files I wanted to export and I could do it directly from EDIUS, rather than export lots of AVI files and load to the stand alone. If I could only afford to buy either the stand alone or plug-in I would buy the stand alone as it has more options.
The results are the same.EDIUS silver certified trainer.
