  • Pegasys TMPGenc Plugin - what about 10bit, what about x265?

    Hi all,
    I'm a quite happy user of the Pegasys TMPGenc x264 Plugin for EDIUS 8.
    Did anybody hear something if they will also implement x265 to this?! What about 10bit?! HEVC and 10bit will become more and more important and unless I have not seen and tested the EDIUS own implementation yet I would guess the internal solution will not be as good as x265 is, at least the past told us the internal H.264 encoder was not up to x264.

    What about giving the guys a little hint, asking the support about an implementation?! The more ask the better the chance they do it.
    In their mastering suite they already have x265 and main10!!

    You have to e-mail TMPG directly and ask. For some reason third party plugins and Edius do not get a lot of attention from GV.

      Pegasys is the maker of TMPGenc plugin as written, not TMPG.
      So if there is interest in an x265/10bit encoder plugin you may also e-mail Pegasys for request, maybe they bring this as a future product if they see the demand.
      I like their x264 plugin very much but would be nice also to get x265 support in 10bit!

        I use TMPG to represent Pegasys. Over the years their name has been shortened in many different ways on the forum.

          ...actually my "simple dream" is to compile FFmpeg with x265/10bit but it looks I'm to stupid for that :-(. I also only find quite old ready builds of that. All new builds only include x265/8bit for some reason.
          Handbrake is not working as real 10bit encoder yet since the core is still 8bit, no matter if the x265_main10.dll is thrown in, output is still dithered 8bit encoded as 10bit. XMedia Recode is still buggy and crashes every time main10/L5.1HT is selected for encode...

          Still in hope for Pegasys, EDIUS itself only seems to support H.264/10bit by spec, don't see anything about H.265/10bit. Curious since there are more Mediaplayers that support H.265/10bit/HDR than H.264/10bit...

              @More4K: !!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!
              This script is working, at least with some configurations, in some I get build errors after 1-2 hours of processing/compiling :-(!
              But in the end I now have a working FFmpeg with a real 10bit x265 v2.5!!
              Others don´t forget, even if you throw a correct 10bit x265.dll in a nightly Handbrake you get 10bit encodes, but the processing inside Handbrake is only 8bit to date. The result is only dithered 8bit, not real 10bit. You can easily see that from a 10bit timeline on a 10bit display showing a 16bit greyscale from Photoshop e.g..

              Thanks again, googled so much but only found scripts that were not working (for me).
