If he's getting around 4.0 GHz, it should push those files.

I have a stable OC at 3.9. 4.0G isn't stable, though Edius will run fine. But yeah, there's more than enough hp there, it just is underutilized right now. If we assume IPC is roughly equivalent, then my 1800X has 2 * 3.9/4.7 ~= 1.66x what a 4.7G 4790k has, and I would expect that a task which takes the full attention of Jerry's processor should take about 60% of mine. And indeed, that's roughly correct. The problem is that Edius peaks out at 25% on the single-slice vid, and the dual-slice hits only about 54% or so....

I am wondering just what NUMA/CPU-awareness the workgroup edition has (the manual specifically calls this out), and whether it is dealing with Ryzen correctly. Games are known to have gotten this sort of thing wrong, and it wouldn't surprise me that something similar happened here. The startup screen does state that it found 16 logical processors, which sounds completely reasonable to me, but it seems unlikely to be the extent of the work being done. Maybe I should donate a Ryzen setup to Japan :)

"If there is supported hardware" -- hmm, which video cards have said hardware? And would they help with an x.264-encoded 4k file? And could it be that my video card is happily underclocked and not aware that it is on some critical path? I don't think so, given the amount of CPU that is eventually needed, but definitely curious....

The Intel GPU on my chip provides h.264/avc decode. But, as I said, I was able to play your bad clip with or without QS decode.

I agree the Pro vs WG is an interesting question. I updated my sig, but to be specific, I'm on Edius 8.31 Workgroup.

ed: oh, there's a new 8.32. I missed that when I specifically went looking for an update. Well, I don't expect it'll fix anything, but I'll give it a whirl.

ed2: no diff on 8.32, except that edius managed to popup a "will show progressive as interlaced" for the hdspark card on 1080p projects before restarting. Spark card back to disabled...
