Edius 6 does not work with WinXP-64

I just assembled a workstation with old components, and learned the hard way that Edius 6 is not compatible with WinXP-64.

The Edius 6 installer disc gave an error message that Win XP requires Service Pack 3.

Unfortunately, WinXP-64 only had a Service Pack 2. Service Pack 3 was applicable only to WinXP-32.

I'll successfully installed Edius 5.51 with WinXP-64, as they are compatible.

However, it would have been nice if the GV programmers made an allowance for an Edius 6 install to WinXP-64, because there never was a SP3 designed for it, as it is more akin to Windows Server 2003.

Oh, well... (sigh).

Another thing I noticed is that the full-installation for 5 or 6 are not available to me on the GV support site, because I started with Edius 4, and only purchased and registered upgrades from then on. I would like to have to option for a simple full installation when I reformat a workstation, as I only have one USB dongle for 4, 5 and 6. Having to start with 4 and work up is a PITA.

Unfortunately, you're working with an EDIUS version that is very old along with an OS 3 versions ago. I doubt there is too much consideration being given to that combo.

you don't have the EDIUS5 CD? any upgrade from 4 was delivered on CD and is a full installer

Not only that, my edius 5 CD arrived with a new dongle.

I have upgrade discs for Edius 5 and 6, both with dongles. I also have a 6.5 upgrade disc, and paid downloads for 7 and 8WG.

If you try to install 5 or 6 on a new machine, it requires that Edius already be present on the machine before those upgrade discs will perform the upgrade.

At the GV Support site, it only allows me to download the upgrade files for 5 and 6, not the full installation file.

My point was that GV should provide registered users with full installer files for download, including all versions of Edius and upgrades for which they have paid.

If I remember correctly, you don't need the old version to actually be installed. All you need is the registration key of the old version -- if the old version is installed the installer for the new version will pick the key up automatically, if it isn't installed, you enter it manually.

all EDIUS5 upgrade disks are full installers, they don't need EDIUS4 to be pre-installed, all you need is the E4 serial when asked
