  • Making Presets wirh TMPG Plugins

    Hello,

I have started using TMPG encoding plugins and want to make some presets yet the "save preset" button is greyed out. The Import and Export buttons are active but no save.

I can Export a recent encode as a preset but there is no way to change the text to label and describe the preset. So all of the presets would have the same name...

    Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue, what I do is select any of the plugin's Generic formats and when it opens, select the chosen preset from the Open button under the words "Export settings file".

All my saved presets are in there, with descriptive names and the button remembers the folder location so it's not so bad.

Thanks Claire. I do not see what you mention in your post. When I open a preset it goes to the encoding details and no way to save a preset. I don't know how else to open a preset.

Steve, what do you think is going on here? Claire and I see the grey buttons but yours are active. Some setting that is missing? I am on Windows 10.

Is it possible for you to do a screen capture?
If I can see how and what I can follow the same steps.
I will make one tomorrow so you can see how it works on my system.

typically, the save button is only grayed out when you select a recently used preset

so, click save and then select your plugin on the left, make your settings, give it a name and then it will appear in "My Presets" at top left of exporter window for future use

hmm, it should work but I don't use the TMPG plugin so I can't test

I assume you installed the update that came out a few days ago to 8.11?

if not, it should not be long before 8.2

                        Hi Claire and Tim,

There are 2 different things going on I see.

First let me explain what I do. I always open the Tmpeg GUI on export with the plugin.
My Presets are saved/ loaded from a folder Path I have set in Tmpeg. This is done because since it is a plug-in the parameters are controlled by the Plugged app.

So when I said I can create and save that is always done in the tmpeg app.
I find it easier to select the preset within the Tmpeg GUi because I can check the settings when I want to.

Now back to the greyed out at saved buttion Tim is referring to.
In the native exporter if you select the a native preset and click save the settings pallet for that preset is opened so you can make adjustments for your preset.

For the plug-in this is not the case.
I don't think we require this per SDK but I will check to make sure.
If we don't it is working as intended .

So can you save Tmpeg presets in the my Preset list? Yes you can.
It requires extra steps because when we import we expect a .tdp file and Tmepg saves as .e8mp4e for H264.

So what you can do is the following
Export a few seconds of a color bar with the settings you wish to save.
Go to the recently used list select it and export as a .tpd.
Select the my preset folder and import the preset. It will appear in the list.

Imho it is better to do this via the Tmpeg GUI.

                        Steve

Thank you Claire and Steve. Now I see that the presets are best handled through the plugin.

I need to make a lot of presets because there is no file size indicator for encoding. So I will have presets based on project length to estimate bitrate numbers.

Steve, the export/import method will get a preset back into Edius but you do not have the ability to alter the text descriptions.

Happy to be encoding high quality straight from the timeline.

                            Hi Tim,

Yes I noticed that we do not read the custom name form the *.tdp which make it a bit confusing when everything is listed. I will discuss this with our QA department.

Steve, interesting procedure to get presets into the "My Preset" section. I had not done that. I just tried it but as I see you and Tim already noticed, with no description for the presets it's of little or no benefit. For me I will stick to using the plugin's GUI. On the other hand descriptive named .tdp's in the "My Preset" section would be a game changer so good luck with that "discussion"!
