  • Edius 8.11 Pro and TMP

    Hi all,

I have recently upgraded to Edius 8.11 Pro and would like to install Title Motion Pro. When I try to install it, it eventually comes up with "cannot find Edius, installation will stop"

It worked fine on E6, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Gordon.

You can't. TMP is no longer supported even by TMP and it is a 32bit plug-in, Edius is now 64bit

Should I upgrade one of my old 5.51 computers to 6.08? 5.51 is very solid with my TMP,etc.

I use TMP for rolling titles so that I can easily import large text file and arrange with tabs with nice colums with clean edges left and right, something that all these modern titlers cannot do !!! So I run the title over a black background and export as a HQ file or I sometimes export a HQ file and run the titles over that for the credits ( the piece I use for mainly ). So I do not think the version of EDIUS is that important as long as it can manage the file format. I just made a new computer when I upgraded to EDIUS 7 so the old one which had EDIUS 6.08 on was left as the one I use for email and WEB browsing so still has EDIUS 6.08 on it. If 5.51 works for you just keep it that way.

TMP is history. The only reason to keep it is the 'word processor' functionality that it has. So, if you do a lot of scrolling or formatting, do as Ron does and keep a second machine.

That said, any new titler will produce far superior titles than TMP....and yes, that difference can be seen in SD projects.

As Jerry says even Quicktitler has sharper text . However the trade off is unprofessional looking large credit rolls with really amateurish uneven edges. Amateur theatre has a lot of helpers so the production crew is often 10 times the cast. I get a text file and TMP is easy to import and then use tabs to create the roll with nice clean edges in several columns. I do not do any fancy titles, just main title and credits so do not need any of the fancy features of the new titlers. For short still titles I use Quicktitler but even if I use a center approach the edges still do not line up that well. It seems unable to allow for the font size used that TMP finds so easy. I guess I am a little anal about properly justified text !!!

Thanks guys for the input, so it looks like TMP is history. That said which plugin would you recommend?, not keen on Quicktitler for the reasons given by others.

As I said in my post , if you want well justified text, both left and right in the same column then none of them will do this. Since TMP never did anything special you probably did not do any fancy titles with it. I have found for simple titles like a still of the cast of a play etc quicktitler works fine. If you want to input a text file and justify left and right with nice clean sharp edges then none of the titlers I have tried will do this like TMP. That is why I keep it on a PC with older version of EDIUS just for this task. Most of the titlers will justify right or left but only in one column so one would need to input text into two columns to do what TMP does in one. Having a mixed text files of positions and names like a production crew would need to split up etc to make it work. If you are inputing directly though it can be done in all the titlers like Vistitle or NewBlueTitler Pro

I expect most here would suggest Vistitle.

Title motion pro wont import in Edius 6

                      Hi,
                      I know TMP is history.
My old computer still has Edius 6 and TMP installed.
I want to convert some of my old titles I ahve made in TMP.
So I copied the icg-files to the Edius 6 computer and started a project.
Edius 6 loads most of the icg-files in the bin, but refuses some of them.
The ones that Edius refuses are the onse with some kind of animation.

Question: How does TMP handle imported graphics? Are they embedded into the icg-file or linked to externally?
I only have the icg-file but not the external graphics.
This could explain the problem in Edius 6.

external content to TMP is hard coded in path, so if something is no longer there, it won't work

Multi-column? Would it work to make two 1-column titles (offset to left and right) and overlay them on separate tracks?

Multi column works for most of the new titlers but that is no good for me as I get a cast list with name and function etc sometimes I need three columns all of which TMPro did really well with 5 tab settings left, right or centre. I would have to split up the text file somehow to get all the names in one column and functions in another. If one is typing in the text then the multicolumn works but for a text files of say 60 people and functions that is just not on !!! I would make too many mistakes and need all sorts of checking to make sure I have them correct. In my case it is an archive of the show so names etc are critical and I often get correction to names etc that were incorrect in the program !!!

I would really like a replacement for TMPRo as I do not need any of the fancy features of the new titlers so not going to spend money on them as they do not solve my needs at all. All I need is a simple credits roll that I can create from a text file and arrange with tab settings for layout with clean sharp edges left and right.

I don't see the problem if you use Word to create your assets.
                              Crew two column.pngThis is a 3 column setup.png

I can set it up so that I see everything and type what I need. You can even copy and paste what was sent to you into this setup. Then you can visually align the two or what ever number of columns.
If you need to use text files, just save each column out as a separate file and proceed as usual.

Once the assets are complete, I copy and paste these items into Vistitle and set up the scroll. It's pretty darn simple.

Vistitle will accept files as copy and paste or import text files directly. Text files don't put the same strain on a system as copy and pasted Word files. For lowered power systems, text files would be my suggestion.
You can also segment each section of the scroll and combine them on the Edius timeline. I like this method for long scrolls. This gives an added bit of flexibility.

I'm working on a Vistitle tutorial that will show how to do this with text files and multiple scroll segments. I'll also show how to set up
the assets by starting with Word.
