  • Help with Marker Exporter 1.4

    Hello,

I am wondering if anybody knows how to export chapter markers for Blu-ray and DVD? Let me explain:

I am editing a 720p60 project. When I export my markers for Blu-ray all is well. I output a keyframe list and they all line up in Authoring Works 5.

When I try to use the same marker list to make the DVD the markers do not line up as they are frame numbers based on 60p. DVD is 29.97.

So, does anybody know how to export markers from a 60p timeline to work with 29.87 DVD authoring?

    Thanks!

DVD authoring requires SMPTE timecode, I use DVD Lab Pro and tested and it works fine, see attached

if you are using TAW5 for authoring DVD, you need to export your 60p file to HQ Fine

then start 60i project, add the file and set the markers

then you can export accurate frame code for TAW5 DVD authoring

After years of exporting an HQX file for encoding in Mastering Works, I purchased the TMPG plugins and am benefitting from encoding straight from the timeline. If there is any way to not have to export anything I would be happier!

you can always edit the keyframe file by dividing each result by 2

I thought about that but I do not know how to accomplish the task.

I e-mailed the maker of the exporter to see if he could help me. There are some commands at the bottom of the interface that offer some different framerate options. Maybe the exporter can do a conversion.

you open the .keyframe file in notepad

use your head or calculator to divide values by two and overwrite

if it says 300, overwrite with 150

when done, save again as all files, .keyframe

Thanks. I hope it can be more graceful than that.

it can as I said earlier, for best DVD results, export the 60p project to HQ Fine and open in 60i and set markers (it is not a big workaround depending on PC power)

Well, I would already have the markers made for the Blu-ray. So exporting a file would have me re-create makers and lose all of their places with the new file.

I am talking about projects with 40-60 markers.

in that case you need to edit the keyframe file or find a formula that automatically divides by 2

maybe the maker in Germany knows of such a formula to be used in the optional line at the bottom

also note that the TMPG exporter plugin will leave your DVD with an unwanted black pillar of 16px total, so I don't use this plugin

I hope so as well. About the pillars, they are only visible is viewed on a computer. For television viewing the overscan area covers them up.

I avoided the mpeg-2 plugin for a long time but after trying I see there is no issue for televisions and the quality is fantastic. Colors are more true compared to HQX & Mastering Works five round trip as well.

the fault really is with TAW5 for not accepting standard Time Code for markers

I would send an email to the makers and ask if they plan on implementing Timecode import for chapters instead of frame code (totally non standard)

all other authoring software accepts TC

That is a good suggestion. I will send support an e-mail.

I have heard back from the Marker Exporter creator yet. I was hoping the program had the capability to do a conversion on the fly.

                            Update:

Problem solved. I found that the plugin has a little checkbox that will include sequence markers. And they are relative to the in and out settings so you do not have to encode from the start of the timeline.

Great news and a great plugin!
