  • Question for Caleb (NewBlue FX) and / or Forum members

Following Caleb's suggestion on this Forum to contact him by email, I sent him a request 10 days ago. I didn't get a reply...possibly he didn't get it or he is busy.

So I thought someone here might be able to help? This was my question to Caleb:

"I have Edius 8.11 installed under Windows 10 Pro and have installed the NB OFX Bridge, complete with Titler Pro 2.

I have previously purchased NB Essentials 3 and 6 version 3 (build 140723). I appreciate these FX are "legacy" and don't automatically install into Edius 8.1. The installers for these FX do seem to offer the possibility to install using OFX.

I have had to do a clean install of Windows 10 recently and have "lost" these FX which I did get working in Edius 8, by copying the plug in folder from Edius 7 to Edius 8. This time it didn't seem to work.

I tried using the OFX route and they appear in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX folder, but not available to the OFX Bridge. Is there any way to get these FX to appear in Edius please?

Strangely these legacy NB Essentials do appear within Titler Pro 2.

    Any advice appreciated."

The ones that show in Edius 8.1 are the newer versions 151xxx. They are not OFX plug-ins so they won't show in the bridge. However, they are designed to show as a direct plug in with TP.
Your older versions will show in TP2 as this is direct and not an OFX effect.

Send Caleb another email and see what you can to do to get the latest installers or upgrade pricing.

      I will try Caleb again.

I don't think there is a simple upgrade since these filters are not classified as Essentials 3 and 6 any more.

I did have them working in Edius 8 by using Anton's method of copying them from the Plug-in folder of Edius 7 to Edius 8. This time round I can't get them to show for some reason.

I mentioned the OFX because when using the NB installer for these Essentials, there is a tick box for Open FX.

Sorry about that John. I double checked my email and I never got it : (

I'm actually really surprised this method worked for you the first time around. I tested this scenario myself as a workaround for EDIUS 8 users and we determined that supporting EDIUS 8 would require additional development, which is why we don't support it with our legacy products.

Good idea, but unfortunately this won't work either. The OFX versions of our legacy products were tailored specifically for Vegas so they don't work correctly in OFX Bridge. I'm really sorry, but I genuinely don't know of a way to get your collections loaded in EDIUS 8.

Fortunately we do have an upgrade path from our legacy products. You can log into your account online and look under "Ultimate Upgrades." I'm really sorry I can't be of more help.

            Hi Caleb,

Thank you for the reply. Not sure why the email didn't get to you as I used the link in your post to this forum?

You have explained why the OFX route doesn't work with the legacy installers.

However, not one to give up, I tried again installing the legacy effects using the installer for Edius 7 but pointing to the Edius 8 plug in folder, and it works!!

            I attach a screenshot.

I went to the NB website to see what upgrades were available to me, but all were over $200 (plus UK tax). Even then I am not sure I get all the filters in Essentials 6 that I use.

I seem to remember there was a time where you could buy individual filters, not a complete package. There is no way I want to pay $200 to get just one or two filters that I want.

Can NB bring back the option to custom make a package to buy?

Andre, what OpenFX plugins do you have installed on the system?

Great! Glad to hear that worked for you, I'll have to do some further testing on this.

We don't offer individual plugins any longer. We found we could provide better service and support to a more limited number of options.

However, we do now offer smaller "bundles" from our various product families (Elements, Essentials, Filters, Stylizers, Transitions) for $99.

Do note that your "Ultimate Upgrade" credit applies specifically when you purchase the "Ultimate" version from one of our collections. That is why most of your upgrade prices are in the $200 range.
