  • New Blue Chroma Key

    Need some advice from users.
It seems that the NB Chroma Key is as good as Robuskey - agree/disagree.
Am I right in thinking that the NB has a soft edge which certainly the basic Edius CK does not.
At present I am using 7.5 as my main editor with 8.1WG on a swappable drive. As it happened for this project which was shot 10 bit E8 saved a lot of embarrassment.
If I have understood the blurb, it works as a plugin but can I install to both 7.5 and 8.

    Thanks

    David

NB will do static keys as well as Robuskey. Where it fails is in motion with fine hair. Hair comes out in clumps.
There is still the black noise issue with Robuskey that NB doesn't exhibit. However, I see a crappy key much faster than the black noise.

I have both but first choice is Robuskey. I crush the blacks with the YUV curve before applying the Robuskey to minimize noise. When it doesn't work NB is next in line.

I have just installed the NB Trial and the Key looks good...considering I was guessing what tweaks to do.
I'm using my 8.1 drive as this footage was shot 10bit.
The System i7 5960 with Raid 5 and GT730 however I am not getting one layer with this plugin in RT - The Edius CC plays in RT

        What should I be tweaking?

If it's a NewBlue effect then you probably need a faster graphics card as they tend to offload onto the GPU

Thanks Adam. I was going to email you. I suspected that might be the case but wasn't sure if I had missed something as it was such a struggle
Any suggestions on what would do the job? I'm loathe to spend big money as I hardly do any CC but will be guided by your advice.

I was waiting to see if Jerry confirms my suspicions. I'm off work until Monday so can't really test it myself.

I have no issues with New Blue Chroma Key Pro using GTX-980 and shooting 4:2:2

when I have to key footage that was shot 4:2:0 the key quality is not as good but still better than EDIUS keyer

My choice would be a 980ti, but those are quite expensive. I can get RT with my GTX 780 in Pal mode and in NTSC it stutters. That is the fine line of RT.

                    Thanks Jerry
Therein lies my dilemma -spending an extra £400 which 99% of the time it would not be utilised. Caleb reminded me that I can set the preview to 25% which almost does the job and maybe the forthcoming Playback/proxy tweak may or may not help.

Look for A GTX 780 or 780ti on Ebay. I've seen them from $250 for the 780 and $350 for the 780ti Classified.
