  • Vistitle 2.6 and Credit roll not very smooth

Sometimes, I use credit roll (I prefer still text), but it's not exactly perfect, not very smooth.
Is there a trick to increase the quality ?

Often, I use usual fonts as Arial medium size.

I have in the past read comments about the roll speed being related to the frame rate to make it roll smoother. Perhaps try different speeds or do a search of the forum and you may find the formular to suit your frame rate on an earlier forum post. Peter

Take a loot at this credit roll. Use Windows Media Player to view it.

      Download it from here:

Surely, I control only on a monitor video (thru HDspark).
And I can easily change the roll duration.
But how to find the best lentgh on TL thru a "scientific" rule ?

the rule depends on vertical frame lines and frames per sec

                  follow this ancient formula

OK, Anton, I used your tuto some years ago.
The principle : the duration must be a multiple of the number of lines of a screen.

Now, in Pal HD, we are 1080 lines height, 25 frames by sec.
For the example, Vistitle shows : 5 screen and Tail pos = 4372
                    If I keep the info : 5 screen = 5 pages.
                    The formula will be : 1080 x 5 = 5400 frames / 25 = 216"
And I would like a duration about 30'', then :
                    216 / 7 = 30,85 = 31"41

                    Is it correct ?

                    Marc

You haven't mentioned delivery methods yet. For medium that will be played over a television and not a computer, the calculation framework is good.

However, when you add streaming, a computer monitor, a completely different encode, and player choice, the chances of a completely smooth scroll is greatly reduced.

It's basically the comparison of playing back through your HD Spark card vs watching it on the computer using your Edius preview monitor.

                        You are right Jerry.
                        I try on a Website : 720 x 405 pix. and the quality is not top :
                        http://www.tv-grand-lac.fr/reportages.php?video=42

However, with the Anton's rule and for a Blu-Ray , the roll is now excellent.
Bu if I want to go to DVD, probably it will be another story ...

As long as it is being played on a televsion, and not a computer screen, it should work the same. Those calculations are based on 720x576 which would be SD settings. Just make sure to use 576i upper for the disc.

There's nothing wrong with the quality of your titles in your video. I hate to say it, but for web delivery, in general, it is the better part of valor to use static titles.

This is going to chap you. I downloaded the video and placed in on both an SD and HD timeline and played it.
The titles have the standard PAL to NTSC flicker but the scroll itself is smooth. That's smooth on both my external monitor and my computer monitor.

It's choppy using VLC and Windows Media player. But, watchable.

                              Thanks for the test.
On Web, the video is progressive, then, the behaviour is different as interlaced.

The calculations are based on 1080 lines.
On monitor, in HD preview it's OK.
I'll try to convert in SD with TMPGENC and see what I get in an SD Edius project (for DVD).

Usually, I don't use roll credit to avoid any eventual problem.
But in this example the list is too long for still text.
