  • Avid Pro Tools (free version)

I have just been sent the link for the free version of Avid Pro Tools. Is anyone using this product?

I have not yet installed it, as it wants to install other Avid items, scren grab attached. Not sure what impact these other Avid products have?

Is Pro Tools useful in relation to Edius? I am using Sony Sound Forge at the moment for additional audio processing.

Full Protools yes, but I think the free version is not aimed at post if I remember correctly. No AAF exchange as example.

I read that the free Avid editing application (not protools and not out yet) will only let you save projects to the Avid cloud, rather than locally, as well as other restrictions. I don't know if the free ProTools is the same.

I won't rush into installing it.

I hope that Edius 8 might have better audio tools?

          Of the programs listed:

pace licence support - the copy protection/dongle stuff
Avid cloud will be their online stuff

and Avid application manager is their "EDIUS licence manager" although it pesters you about more stuff. With the exception of the Cloud program the other are installed when I install normal Media Composer and have not caused me any problems with EDIUS.

I have seen a few things on the EDIUS 8 list and improved audio was not one of them. Also there is lots of new stuff planned for EDIUS 8 but Grass Valley are saying it is coming over the next two years and a lot of it won't be in the first release of EDIUS 8.
