A bit of a bummer that the Spurs Engine plugin is unsupported - but that is expected. Another hardware card for the bin
    AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, AMD Radeon 6800XT, 64GB RAM, EDIUS X WG.

Not supported - sounds like it did not sell well.

Maybe more importantly, it has been made obsolete by QuickSync and GPU-based encoding where there are still substantial performance gains with every new GPU generation.

Except they dropped CUDA support as well!

I guess they need to stay ahead of the curve but this release does not have very much for my workflow. Maybe mpeg-2 with Quicksync but I really do not know much about it. 8k & 4k encoding is pretty far away from my usual delivery scheme.

I am stuck in the DVD trap as Blu-ray has never caught on and digital delivery does not work for larger sales or events imho. I wish-listed to TMPG for them to combine Masteringworks with Authoringworks to get a very quick end to end workflow, disc or digital. But the lure of megapixels won out again...:)

CUDA seems to be replaced by NVENC for encoding purposes.

Looks like CUDA for encoding purposes has been dropped from NVIDIA drivers on August 2014

Does anybody know how NVENC compares against software based x264 ? CUDA video encode quality was not good enough imho.

5th generation Intel processors with QuickSync also have improved encode quality.

I tried it and CUDA was faster. I never used CUDA for projects.

CUDA only seems to be engaged when filters are used. But I thought CUDA was left out of v6 as per the release notes?

CUDA for rendering has been replaced.
