I'm surprised no one has confirmed the colour shift problem I am seeing when using the standard Blu-ray and AVCHD templates. Plain to see...

Is that via the TMPG Plug in or straight from Edius?
I don't have the plugin tossed it away at the first version as I had to keep going onto the internet everytime I started Edius, pain in the butt
Straight from Edius The Bluray and ACVCHD look ok to me, but I don't use them either
Export a HQ to VMW5 and then author works, takes a little longer but the best I can get with 1 pass
2 pass makes a heck of a difference with H264 or MP4 where transitions are concerned

Hi Barry, I refer to the "TMPGEnc Movie Plug-in AVC for EDIUS Pro 7" this thread is about, see my earlier posts #18,#19 & #20 when I first spotted the colour problem after initially being quite positive about it.

The easiest way to see the problem is to render out a clip in Edius using the plug-in's AVCHD template.

When entering the filename for the output file in the plug-in make the filename extension .m2ts instead of just .m2t which will allow Edius to recognise it properly and it will add it to the bin when done.

Now drag it from the bin and place it over the original clip on the timeline on a higher video track. You should now be able to easily see the difference in colours to the original, especially if you toggle the higher track on/off. As it stands this is not acceptable, I assume it's a bug?

          Thanks Claire
Just wanted to clarify as sometimes people get off track, just to make sure I was not missing something from within Edius

Claire, I did an A B comparison while looking at the waveform and I do see an IRE and a black level shift.

I tried it but I won't use it because it is missing the filters from the standalone version

it is very important for me to select the Lanczos3 filter for downscaling like 1920x1080 to 640x360 or 1280x720

because of the missing downscale filter, you get the typical downscale artifacts which are not acceptable to me

however, if no downscaling is needed, the plugin should come in handy

Since EDIUS has Lanzcos downscale you could feed the encoder a scaled stream. :)

                  Yes,
but this needs to change the project settings.
It would be easier to use the pre-selected resizer (in project settings) as preprocess on export too or simply an resize option on export.
Because I don't see that this will change, it would be great if any third party export plugin compensate it.

Sort of. Only if you choose to shoot in interlaced mode. If you shoot in progressive you need outside help to downscale.

I guess this is some technical impossibility within Edius?

Here is an Edius still image capture, shows 100/x/75/c Color Bars on the lower track and AVCHD version from the plug-in on a higher track. I cropped the plug-in's version of it with layouter to reveal the original bars on the lower track.

No one else getting this problem? It reinforces what I saw with my first attempt at using this plug-in with a scenic clip. Green grass was a lighter green, bright red was a dark red, etc.

There is no limitation to interlaced formats as long as you change projects resolution to target size
& if you set the global resize settings in project settings to 'Lanczos 3 sharpen (best for progressive
footage)' (translated from german localized version).
                        Quality is comparable to VirtualDub.

You can not change a progressive project to an interlaced project setting for DVD output. One can only change an interlaced project to interlaced SD (DVD) for encoding. If we could there would be less need for external encoding solutions.

I see your point, it is annoying that our NLE can't export progressive projects to DVD.
But you can indeed change the project type to interlaced if you stay at the same frame rate.

I still miss the capability to export discs from progessive (25p, 29.97p) projects.
Wihle Edius can interlace on file export, Edius can't do the same job on disc export.

                              Sorry for being so effusive!
I have deleted my so called "workaround" from my previous post.
The way I have described did NOT work as expected!
Even if I flag a sequence to progressiv inside of an interlaced project,
the effects will be still applied interlaced.

My fault was to not set the preview to 'both fields'!

                              Damned...

Claire, Yes; I tried your workaround and it worked but one shouldn't have to do that.

I am having trouble producing a Blu-ray disc from the m2ts file produced, it has been stated here that Edius disc burner will do that but it does not, requesting an image file. I am doing something wrong obviously or need an extra stage in the process, any help would be appreciated.
                                Thanks.
