  • Graphic plug in needed ASAP

I am filming/editing ads and need a graphics program that can enhance my productions. Ideally something that integrates with Edius that is template based.

Things I need to do are simple things like scroll still pictures along the bottom of the screen with live vision on the top.

I know you can do this with Picture in Picture but I am trying to get away from the simple BOXED look.

    Thanks

    Martin

What version of Edius are you using? Layouter will do everything you need except it won't have templates.

But you can make your own by saving layouter as a preset
For more interesting look combine Mask and Layouter
Select both in the information bin and save as a combined preset
Place the graphic in the upper track and drag your preset onto it

I know you want to work in Edius, but you may consider this if you use AE - these pre built animation projects can save vast amounts of time if you have media, and need a quick design.

          Look here: http://www.pond5.com/
          then under After Effects.

Some are cheap $5 some more like $60

just a thought...if time is pressing.

            After Effects

Thanks for all the great tips guys

Paul I will look into the After Effects option and like the idea of those templates.

The look for the ad I am doing is to have scrolling stills at the bottom of the screen starting from the centre and to the right of text (bottom left).

The stills would scroll across a bit like in this ad http://www.resilience.com.au/#!/navigators-tvc

This really should be a drag and drop and a quick thing to do I would think.

I also have come across some awesome AE templates on this site http://www.videoblocks.com/videos/ae-templates/

Here is a BD/DVD run up to menu using both AE and Layouter that has something similar to what you are wanting to do.

                Hi again

After doing some research I am sticking with Vistitle as apposed to going into After Effects land. To put it bluntly I already own VisTitle, cant see myself doing full on animations etc.

I have just ordered the new Vistitle tutorials as I hope to learn a few new tricks.

In the meantime can anyone assist me get a job across the line. Below is a link to an edit nearing completion except I want to replicate in Vistitle.

A friend of mine did this in After Effects but did a rushed job and the animation is jerky.

Any basic steps would be so appreciated. Thanks heaps in advance.

I guess you are wanting the pictures to scrawl. Here is a layout for you to test that uses the windows sample pictures. You may have to import the windows sample pictures into Vistitle for it to work. For your project, have the images ready to import into Vistitle. Look at how the layout is setup.
                  Watch the video:
                  still scroll.zip

It is a 40 second clip.

Remove the .zip by renaming the file.

                    After Effects presets

Well I have just abouts come to the conclusion that my best way to go forward with creating cool looking effects with minimal work is to go for the After Effects presets.

Paul thanks for the link these are aweseome. I havent tried them yet but will trial tomorrow.

After looking at the tutorials its looking like Vistitle is more as the word says a title program and not so much an animator for more sophisticated looking effects. I might be wrong but thats how its looking to me.

Here again is the main page link

Yes, Vistitle is a titler that does other things. It is just another tool in the toolbox...as is AE. They each perform a job. I used to use AE for all of my animated titles. Then I started using Vistitle and it was much faster(fewer steps), and with my AE experience, a breeze to learn. At no time did I feel that AE was replaceable.

                        Hi Jerry

Thanks for that .zip file you sent me on the forum.

I could play the sample but couldnt extract the other file which I expect will work within Vistitle?

Also I have done the tutorial on "The image slideshow tutorial 1" but it doesnt really explain how to go about doing what I want to do which is make a right to left slide show happen thats a little more sophisticated than your sample.

I was hoping there would have been a truck load of presets within Vistitle for this. What about a website with presets like with After Effects site Paul referred to?

Do you know if there is a big Q and A on Vistitle. Simple things like how do you load an animated background into Vistitle or does Vistitle only accept certain video files?

                          Hutch
Have you got the Vistile tutorial Jerry has made available from Mark at ON2DVD, I am going through it at the moment and I thought I was getting a handle on Vistitle but Jerry has opened my eyes on what is capable and how easy it can be compared to the round about methods I had used
All roads lead to Rome but not directly, I can only commend Jerry for the effort

With the zip File you mentioned from Jerry was that the one with the stills moving from right to left, there was a video and a template
You need to import the template into Vistitle, I selected one of the effects palets right clicked and imported from where the file was saved, if it does not go into the first palet you try it means it is not corredt for that area try another palet

I think the tutorial goes into this but I have not got that far yet, seems like hours there, have been relearning so much at the beginning that is different but better

                          Regards Barry

1.You don't extract anything from the layout file. All you do is rename it by removing the .zip at the end of the name. That should give you a vistitle layout file.

Here is one that you can download and extract:still picture crawl0.zip

Once you unzip it, import it into the Edius bin. Place it on the timeline. Hold your shift key down and double click the clip. The layout will open within Vistitle.

Also I have done the tutorial on "The image slideshow tutorial 1" but it doesnt really explain how to go about doing what I want to do which is make a right to left slide show happen thats a little more sophisticated than your sample.

It is hard to make a tutorial set that covers every project scenario possible. Trust me on that. Once you open the layout within Vistitle, you will see how to set your images.

I was hoping there would have been a truck load of presets within Vistitle for this. What about a website with presets like with After Effects site Paul referred to?

The only templates are the one's that are within Vistitle. I have had requests for another more advanced set of tutorials and/or a set of title templates such as the one's your are talking about. Whether or not I do another set, hinges on how well this first set of tutorials sell.

Do you know if there is a big Q and A on Vistitle. Simple things like how do you load an animated background into Vistitle or does Vistitle only accept certain video files?

I go over the Dyna color imports in the tutorials. But if you are talking about importing an HQ or h.264 file, it won't do it. Vistitle uses vxmovie files.
The only way to import any movie into Vistitle, is to create a tga, png, or jpeg sequence from a clip on the Edius timeline.

You then import the contents of the sequence folder into the VisMX Maker application contained in the Vistitle folder. Once you have imported these files into the VisMX Maker, choose your output settings and export. It will create a vx movie that you can import directly into Vistitle in the project setting that you are woriking. I covered how to import stills and videos in the menu bar tutorial. If you remember how I imported the flags, it is near that section.

Is there a particular reason that you need to have the background within Vistitle? Try using the file on a lower layer in Edius. This is easy and you can reposition it quickly.
If you think that you are going to apply effects to the video, think twice. You can animate it, and apply effects overtop of it, but you can't apply effects directly to the video.
Once again, AE would be the way to go for that. For that matter, you probably could do it in Edius.

I know that you said you had watched the tutorials, but have you actually followed along within Vistitle doing the same moves that is on the tutorials?
Just watching is not going to do it. You have to get your hands dirty.

You may have to go over the 1st 7 tutorials a couple of times. There is a lot of territory covered in those tutorials. These are the basics. If you learn this part, you will be able to do the rest with ease.

I guess the best advice I can give you, whether you are going to use Vistitle or AE, is don't try to take shortcuts. Learn the program and then the rest will fall into place.

                              Hi Jerry

Some great tips there the big one being do all the tutorials!

Thanks also for that preset for the stills moving left to right. It worked.

I do though now want to work out how to tweak for the look I am after.

I think whoever makes up a whole stack of presets will subtle variations would do well for themselves. I for one would be happy to pay $$$ for Visititle presets that have slight variations.

No doubt I will come back with some more questions soon
