3rd party plugins Crashes Edius 6.52

Heroglyph 4.0198 instantly crashes Edius. As soon as the H banner appears Edius has stopped working message appears.

Any ideas?

Also Gen Arts Sapphire Scan lines is Ok but ditto Vignette crashes Edius.

HPZ800 dual 6 core CPU 24GB RAM win 7 64Bit

Also Izotope Ozone (recommended replacement for old Izotope bundle) crashes Edius if I double click filter whilst time line is playing

Looking at your system specs you have tripple channel memory (nothing to do with DDR3) this is the memory configuration
Windows 7 seems to have problems with this and especially with Edius 6.5
Go into your BIOS and make sure anything to do with memory marked TURBO or AUTO is removed and set to manual
Also make sure HPET timing is set to 64bit (Could be in Power settings)

I had similar problems till set up as above now as smooth as silk
It didn't take long for the tripple chanel to be replaced with Quad channel, but no one is confessing to the problem

Maybe it is something with the system.
Genarts and Heroglyph work here.

There is a note in the compatibility thread that on some systems it could happen that if you have NewBlue plug-ins installed Heroglyph and Sapphire crash.
You can try the following if you have NewBlue filters installed cut the NB folder out of the Edius plug-in folder. Check if SA and Hero work correct. If so then you know what he issue is.

Firstly thanks for the replies.

I have a full stack of plugins FEC, GenArts, NewBlue all, Izotope and ProDad. No sign of Adorage for Edius 6.5 yet so its just Vitascene and Mercalli.

Tried turning off the Intel turbo options in the bios Barry but that had no affect still crashing. Not sure that any settings below that I have available affect that.

Memory/chipset

Memory mode interleave was disabled lots of stuff on that left unsure.
Numa split mode was enabled

Hardware Power Management

Intel Turbo boost was enabled (Effectively temperature monitored overclocking)
Enhanced turbo boost enabled
EUP compliance enabled (everything off on MB)

So I will strip out the plugins folder and park off on the deskop the full set and introduce steadily what works. The big question is of course if there is a big incompatability who does one point the finger at for a fix?

Sorry I can't help with pointing fingers. I just suggested something which would allow you to use Genarts and Heroglyph.

The issue is a bit complicated and we are also investigating. But as you can imagine it will take sometime to sort as we have been getting more and more plugs .

NewBlue Plugins results report

Test condition: 1920 1080 50i project NewBlue plugins none.

Create Heroglyph 4 title and park up the cursor over the title.

Save project & close Edius

Introduce New Blue plugins on the logic of choosing the ones originally set for the original Edius bundle first.

Open & test. OK save and close

Now add all the video essentials plugins 1 to 6.

We are still OK. Save & close.

Now if any of the following NewBlue plugins are added, Edius 6.52 opens, then pauses a moment, then crashes, without touching the mouse or keyboard.

It depends because there are combinations (on affected machines) in which the plug-ins you pointed out work with Sapphire and Heroglyph. As I said it is a bit more complicated. But thanks for testing and reporting. :)

Complications...

Well yes we have:

A hardware platform (MB & PSU)
Third party plug in cards
RAM manufacturers
CPU manufacturers
OS from Microsoft
The main App
App manufacturer hardware
Third party plugins

Stir it all up, put it in the oven and expect the cake to be perfect after baking.

There is always going to be combinations that are flakey with this set of ingredients. Always frustrating at the coal face at the user end (me) but sometimes difficult to nail down what the problem is in the app, (software designers) and repeating the problem.

As you say I can only report on my results in my situation. I hope in some small way it is a help. I look forward to 6.55.

Both the ISP*.tpi and NeatVideo.tpi cannot co-exist with the other plugins in my set up and Heroglyph

Weirder and weirder

System 4 Edius 6.52

Just got Adorage working and now the set of New Blue I had before Adorage was added doesn't work.

Also no one plugin is faulty it is the combination of NewBlue plus Sapphire plus ProDad filters that causes Edius to crash.

All of them will work but only in certain groupings.

That is about as much as I can do, it's over to the software engineers..

nVidia Driver 311.15

Now Edius its better with this latest nVidia driver. 2 off FX3800 GPU (noted Direct X 11 installed GPU have direct X 10 support).

Now see we have 314.07, driver released 18th Feb will try that next. Report on 311.15 below;-

Ghosting in filters window whilst scrolling up and down filters list gone.

White windows gone.

Now can add more NewBlue plugins without Edius crashing.

So, with Sapphire, and ProDAD Adorage,Vitascene, Mercalli, Boris Red, Izotope Ozone VST, Vistitle, Final Effects Complete (Adobe aex), everything NewBlue except the following

Titler Pro
Light Blends
Light Effects
Flash remover Pro

Although the above will work but have to remove some others. Almost like there was some sort of plugins limit.

It still crashes out with the others added:

Third party plugins update.

Ok so now we have Edius 6.53. This reduced the number of New Blue plugins that I can have at one time in the plugins folder against v6.52.

Test project 1920 by 1080 50i 10Bit with mixed material on timeline.

Cursor parked on ProDAD Heroglyph template title.

I have put Nvidia Quadro Fx3800 driver 311.35 which is the latest.

I tried adding two more folders with the contents empty and that still works so its not the number of folders that is the issue.

So adding 3D explosions and 3D transformations it poofs.

So now remove all but one .tpi entry in each of the 3D folders and it still poofs. So I can't see what the issue is, but there clearly is one.
