It also has an issue with peak whites, clipping them and removing fine details in white areas - not good for a tool which offers:

Primary Color Correction—Adjust your image to achieve a 'true' result with correct color and effective contrast.

    and....

"It was fun to watch the attendees eyes light up when we showed them Color Correction & Grading using NewBlueFX."

I'm sorry but this tool cannot be used for grading in its current state, not even in an 8bit world.

This is not meant as taking a potshot at NewBlue, frankly, I like their stuff, but users should be aware that these limitations
exist before they commit to buying.

Have to agree on all this, I have battled and struggled with the NB colorfast program. Although I love the GUI and the simplicity of it, it has killed the speed of my edits and also rendering times. For a brief period I had this program working in real time, then it created a pixilation issue in my images which NB could not (and frankly it seems could not be bothered) find a solution to. I eventually rolled back ATI drivers to earlier version and found that fixed that. Then I updated to a 660 GTX card with 2gb DDR5 memory and now all the NB plugins are SLOWER than ever..... frame by frame. The only way to use them is to select 'bypass' on the preview selector.
The reason I'm venting my spleen, is because now their tech support will not answer my emails. Am I in the too hard basket???
There is a great product called 'Element 3d' which is a plugin for AE. The power of this 3d app is amazing and it's very reasonably priced. I know it's apples and pears, but shows what a clever individual can achieve and market successfully and still charge a reasonable price.

It is odd that NB respond to certain issues - but blatantly ignore others - it will be sales no doubt - I guess Colour fast is "old" and enough people make it work, and have low expectations, or low technical requirements - so why fix it, it almost works...and putting it in a bundle always keeps users eye off the ball - "it was real cheap, some of it works!"

pitty, the UI is pretty good, apart from the fact you can't use it on a lot of laptops and, errrr, it clips the white details, even in bypass, ummmm, doesn't play well with a lot of graphics drivers.......

I guess version 2 will be released soon, so we can buy it again!!

Ha ha, sad but true. Just like travel brochures, the software never seems quite as good as the 'glossy magazine ad'
And yet, we get sucked in to buying bigger and better version 2 or 3 or 4......

In Edius Colour Fast clips highlights, removing the details and clipping the shot when set to NONE.

There's some kinda clipper at work here - it's removing my manuscript music on the lit stage with musicians - even when in bypass??

It behaves as though it has a "safe" limiter built in - I think it should appear as an option in future builds - removing detail, even when above 100% ( Sony EX produces highlights to 120% ) doesn't help recovery of a usable shot - simply replacing the details with a slab of white....

          just my 2cents

Thank you for that report, Paul. I'll check with our engineers on this.

If you have a chance, would you mind checking something? Can you try disabling the GPU processing for ColorFast (open the controls, click the " i " button, then select the "Disable GPU" option) and see if it's still clipping at the same point?

I'm sorry to hear that ColorFast is working slower with your new video card, Shane. Certainly we do appreciate your support of our company and we would never intentionally not respond to your emails. Perhaps our last response didn't go through for some reason?

I'll double-check and make sure someone gets back to you shortly.

Disabling GPU has no effect, the problem remains:

              Clip from Sony EX1

Thanks for checking that, Paul. I'll get it reported to our engineers so they can look into the issue.

Do you have a video clip that you wouldn't mind sharing with us which we could use to test this issue? I can give you an FTP location to upload it to if it's a large file.

                  Sure thing, will do.

Here's a link to a short test pluge clip and a screen still showing the full output from a Spark card:

Ha Ha! by expanding the bottom windows task bar, the plugin window drops, so I can see the X !! BUT now I can't see the OK button at all - dam - not made for laptops at all.

We do have a new build of ColorFast available today which should fix the interface size problem:

                      http://downloads.newbluefx.com/downl...p30-130329.exe

Please download and test it out when you get a chance.

We're still looking into the issue with the levels being clipped, so there isn't any change for that behavior yet.
