  • New Blue Colour Fixer distorts audio

I have a project with three live sequences. Each consists of three multicam tracks sync'd with Plural Eyes. They play back perfectly in sync.

I have then applied Colour Fixer to each of the video tracks in two of the sequences to correct the colour balance.

    The audio now "motorboats".

I assumed this was because NB needs rendering so I rendered the entire project - three sequences, each with three track sync with PE. The tracks in the two sequences that have been colour balanced with NB Colour Fixer are distorted and even after rendering unusable. Nor does the track playback properly.

The playback of the sequence not treated with Colour Fixer plays perfectly.

My sense is that it's something to do with the rendering but I don't know what.

Jerry I'm happy to do whatever helps but I'm not sure how much more detailed I can be. I believe it's something I've done (mainly because that's the way things happen for me) but I don't know what other details would be helpful. With respect, simply asking for "exact details" isn't terribly helpful - can you be more precise?

Frankly, although I like the NB Colour Fixer interface (and I certainly like the results) if NB is going to cause me problems there are at least three or four other ways to achieve the same end.

One of the biggest benefits of Edius is how little rendering it requires. My previous experience was with Liquid which offset the need for rendering by doing it in the background. For that reason in the Liquid environment NB wasn't too invonvenient; in Edius frankly it's much less attrractive and it wouldn't take much to persuade me to uninstall it.

I'm hoping someone with experience of this problem and the solution will be able to help.

A search of the members reveals no marcus johnson - perhaps he uses an alias.

However, if anyone's reading this backwater of the forum, perhaps they could tell me if I'm correct in understanding that rendering a project with filters on three channels of clips in one timeline wouldn't overcome any difficulty the program has in replaying the time line smoothly.

Eric and Jerry - many thanks. Further examination suggests that the problem is not in New Blue but in Edius.

The three tracks were multicam - when I played them not in multicam mode they played correctly.

Obviously I'm not smart enough to know whether the root cause of the problem is NB or Edius but it seems more likely to be Edius so I'll re-post there. For now anyway, many thanks

It is not a problem with EDIUS. Most New Blue filters will require rendering thats has been explained many many times.
If your system cannot playback the streams in realtime with Color fixer applied yes the audio will sound weird because the streams are not played back at proper speed. Your system is choking at this point.
Turn off filter processing during multicam playback. But it is also good practice to CC after switching.

                Hi Philip,

I do apologize that you were having issues with our software. I am glad to hear that it sounds like it was just an issue with trying to process the effects in Multicam mode.

It sounds like Steve provided you with some good workflow suggestions for the future. If you need any assistance from me, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.
